Is that an original delta elite case?

Think it's from a new model (post 1991). Description says it's "brand new".

Knew I shouldn't have mentioned it... You're about to swipe it from me, ain't you?

You seem to have much deeper pockets than I.

I do need another 1911...and I have always been fascinated by the 10mm cartridge...

JK, but seriously you might think about removing that link with all the 1911 fanatics running around here.

To get back on topic and address the OP...

Colt is the only producer to consistently make the 1911 since it's inception. It is since as the quintessential, pure 1911 and is a fantastic gun.

That being said, there are many other great 1911 manufacturers out there. Here is my S&W with my buddy's Springfield and a WW2 Remington.

EDIT: If you get a 1911, be sure to get an American one. That is all I ask.

The Remington R1 and the Ruger SR1911 are the best-priced entry American 1911s out there. Give em a look.

Good news: Won the case!!!!!

Bad news: As I'm completing the transaction, I see another auction for a "First Edition Stainless" case that must have just been posted. Cause it wasn't there last night!

Want the blue one if I get this other one? (there's already 5 bids on it so there may be a bidding war for it with 5 days left)

now looking at Colt 1911s in a .22lr, 9mm or .45 cal. Can anyone provide some input?

If you're looking for a gun to add to your collection, you'd be hard pressed to beat the 1911. The 1911 is also a find self defense and concealed carry gun, although its manual of arms requires more practice than a number of other guns, e.g. striker fired or DAO guns.

Personally, I don't see much use for a 1911 in 9mm. There are a number of guns that one could get chambered in 9mm that would be lighter and have more rounds available than the 1911. OTOH, I like the idea of a 1911 chambered in 22LR. The 22LR is a great gun w/ which to learn handgun basics. It's easy to shoot and (up until recently) used ammo that was inexpensive and easy to find. A 1911 chambered in 22LR makes even more sense for one who's going to use a 1911 for home defense or concealed carry for the same reasons. One of the guns near the top of my "gun bucket list" is a 1911 22LR made by GSG. GSG also makes 22LR 1911's for Sig and Puma. The 1911 22LR made by Chiappa (same gun as the one sold by RIA) is a good gun, but not as nice as the GSG.

There's already been a bunch of nice 1911's mentioned. OTOH, if you don't want to spend a minimum of $600, there are some other 1911's available. See my post on this thread.LINK

It's ugly as sin, but being custom made BY Colt and with the historical note makes it a really cool gun.

The one that doc is looking at appears to have replacement grips. Just an FYI - does that bother anyone other than a purist?
