Well, you have been lucky then.....ducks are just not worth hunting in some places further south now.

Too many pay-hunt spots up north that keep the ducks fed and watered.....young birds are trained not to fly all the way south anymore, IMO.

64 yrs old hunted Venice for 25 years and it was like stealing, now hunting with the grandson and I feel bad for him, not anything close to what we once had , we're lucky to SEE a limit

In the early-mid 80s the mallards were so thick in the swamp behind the farm it was unreal...we would out our 3 and back out not to disturb them.

They just disappeared, never knew how good we had it

It's over with. Might as well find a new hobby or drop your expectations for a "duck hunt" down to just enjoying coffee and a sunrise.

Seriously, it's over, done, gone, adios.

What did he ticket you for?

I heard a story about him almost getting hypothermia trying to catch some guys up around Morehouse Parish shooting over the limit. They warmed him up and he still gave them a ticket.

I’m excited about this mentality opening up some new lease opportunities.

It will be interesting to see if lease prices ever go down with as bad as it’s getting. $12k per pit to kill a few ducks and geese nowadays

. Nope networks of guides are pirating any and all available leases to expand their range and ability to jump around.

Lease prices have never gone down even in the 3/30 days

That is true for certain areas but not all.

And I didn’t say that the lease opportunities would be cheap.

Have at it. Go get you a nice lease in the heart of Gueydan, Louisiana for $12k. Hunt all season and shoot 30 Ringnecks, 10 Teal, 5 specks, and a dozen sunrise pictures. Give it up and pass it to the next sucker. Rinse and Repeat. There is a sucker born every season.

There is ground around the state has been held by the same lessees for generations and has shot thousands of birds a season, but in the last 5+ years it's been passed around like an orphan to any sorry fool that wants to "try".

It goes for the whole state from Monroe, to Columbia, to Creole. Same story every year.

Man, the way ya’ll talk I have no idea how I even put ducks in the freezer. Must be lucky I guess.

Look, I realize duck hunting isn’t what it used to be, but I’m optimistic that it will get better. I’ve personally seen improvements, albeit small, in the last couple of years where I hunt.

It’s certainly not worth $12k for a pit but I’m perfectly happy with what I pay for the lease I’m in now. If it wasn’t washing away I wouldn’t be as concerned about finding something else.

That was probably daily for him. He really a hard on for the guys out on 15 and the guys in Jones off Dummy Line Road. He would sit in the ditches and watch people shoot and what was jacked up is he would write tickets on being out of order on when you shot back when we were on the points system. Heaven forbid you shot a Mallard hen first with that guy.

I was in high school during his glory days and only got checked by him once or twice since that dude wasn't slumming out at Russell Sage where we were hunting. However every once in a while we got the invite to Mer Rouge, Pin Oaks, or 15. One morning he busted a pit on Richland and it was raining bad. He asked for a ride in on the wheeler of a guy he wrote a ticket too and the guy basically said to pound sand and Joe confiscated his wheeler.

Feds at mouth of river back then were way worse on that - the cans accounted for a lot of tickets.

people really can't comprehend how many birds we had back then. But I miss the quail we had in my younger days way more than the ducks.
