Coast guard boarded me in Leeville and I had everything I was supposed to have but my fire extinguisher wasn’t showing a charge so he wrote me up. The ticket doesn’t have much info on it and the state doesn’t have a law that says they have to be replaced so I hadn’t bothered to check mine in a while. They also take forever to inspect your boat and have a hard time keeping your boat safely out of traffics way and off of the bank.

That sucks.

Was it one if the little cheap extinguishers with no pressure gauge?

I got boarded in dulac earlier this year and had the opposite experience. They were polite and pretty fast. I had everything and the filled out a report and told me to keep it with my registration so that if I was stopped again, I could show that I had been fully inspected. Whole ordeal took about 20 minutes I guess counting some bullshitting.

Coast guard is such a crapshoot. They have a lot of young kids out there who arent the best boat people and some older guys who are some cool old salts. I guess I got lucky.

What good is a fire extinguisher if it isn’t charged?

Yeah I’m gonna guess if you have a fire extinguisher that doesn’t work then technically you don’t have a fire extinguisher.

you could try throwing the empty extinguisher at the fire. like if you threw it really hard it might subdue the flames.

I was boarded and inspected on the Tickfaw earlier this summer. Took about 10 minutes and all was well. They had me on one side and another boat on the other. That inspection is good for 6 months I think they said.

Never been stopped by the Coast Guard. The WL Agents that have are typically good. One thought our boat to be a bit "rigged up" and "old" but we were legal, he insisted we copy his cell down . I've only had one be a dick, but they have a tough job.

Boarded last month at cal pt before a trip one afternoon. Gave the guy my pelican box and told him to have at it while I parked. Complemented me on my paperwork and dinged me for not having my throw cushion accessible. Disagree about the difficulty of their job, all they have to do is act professional, they have the power to correct unprofessional attitudes.

Did he give you an actual ticket? I got boarded in Leeville once and he wrote something for my throw cushion was tucked under my console instead of out on the deck, but it was just a warning.
