I'm the mosquito magnet in any crowd I'm part of. I can have 20 people at my house and I'm the one getting eaten up by mosquitoes while others seem to not be getting bothered by them.

Also, if I'm in the garden doing weeding and stumble upon an ant pile I don't see, those little bastards must send out some sort of signal and they all seem to start biting at the same time. Just about every ant bite will form a small pus ball within a few hours and I'm having to pop them to help them dry out and heal.

For a little bit of humor, go to the 39:47 min mark of this clip of the Hodge Twins Podcast from a few weeks ago.

39:47

The guest was some comedian guy from NY who moved to Texas (of course) and was scratching his legs and balls during the podcast and the Twins said "man, you alright?"

The guy responded that he had poison ivy and had it for weeks. He showed the twins the marks and they said, "Man you got in some damn chiggers, that ain't no poison ivy."

The guy apparently even went to massage parlar the day before.

Hodge Twins preceded to tell him all about chiggers and how they got eaten up in the Marine Corps and when they visited Arkansas.

The comedian guy had apparently been going out into the Texas woods and walking his damn dog all the time and he was in shorts and hiking boots/sneakers.... In fricking June...

fricking Yankees.

Stop using Off. Use Repel Sportsmans Max 40% DEET.

Deep Woods off is 25% DEET. Use the Repel its much stronger.

I use Repel. Spray shoes, legs to knees. Pants yo knees. And around waist. Never get chiggers now using Repel.

lol.

I keep telling myself that letting it dry on my clothes before putting on puts me at minimal risk.

Had an ant bite near my ankle ended up as a staph infection. Nasty. Still have a brown quarter sized mark.

That sure brings back memories. Taking a bath in a #2 wash tub that seemed like it was almost pure bleach. Gettin chiggers around your sack and scratching all day only to have to sit in the bleach bath water.

If you live in chigger country you will eventually get immune to them

Not sure why the down votes. This is absolutely true. I use to get them so bad as a kid my testicles would swell up but after decades of working in the woods I just get little red marks now that don't bother me at all.

For this to be true I think you really have to live that outdoor life everyday. I went a year without being out due to a back injury and my immunity faded a bit but came back pretty quick.

As a kid I always took a bath with bleach immediately after being out in the woods and it would kill the chiggers before they could burrow into the skin

I hated going to Silver Flag @ Tyndall AFB. Bare base military exercise. Chiggers were horrible. I itched and scratched for weeks after leaving that shite hole.

Get some sulfur from a pharmacy. Put some in an old sock and pat in on your lower pants leg and our shoes. Works great

Seems I only remember chiggers from my childhood...

We use to do a few shots of vinegar before fishing creeks in the bottoms not so much for chiggers as it was for mosquitoes. I would assume it works for most insects not sure.

First, I heard of it, I was around 11 & skeptical. I was quickly made a believer as they would land/fly off. You could taste the vinegar on your arm if you wanted. No B/S.

We were dirt poor with no bug spray before a spontaneous mid day summer fishing trip. Some of us were boohooing about no bug spray. Someone had some PAPA info & said vinegar so we tried it. I'll use it 40 years later in a pinch.

1 cap full of liquid Lysol in bath water every time I get out of woods…until cooler weather arrives….this is preventative…it doesn’t fix afterward…

my folks moved to Arkansas; they have a large tract in pelsor and a lake house in Rogers. I refuse to visit from June to October.

Last time i was in pelsor during chigger season I came back covered nose to toes. It was a month before I got relief…had to go get steroid shots
