I'm taking my boat to the Chandeleur Islands in October to as a 'mothership' for a center console we'll use to get to the islands and fishing spots. We plan to spend at least a couple of nights. I've spent quite a bit of time on the Mississippi barrier islands, but never been to the Chandeleurs. I draw 4.5'.

The people I'm going with have some experience doing this, but I'd like to get my own info on good anchorages for this sort of thing. I'm not having any luck with Google, so any help would be much appreciated.

thanks!

you'll anchor up on the bay side

any of the channel cuts thru the islands will have good water on the bay side, plus access for the small boats to get to the beach side. just be careful on your approach

theres a big cut between freemason and the north islands that most ppl use to anchor up

god damn, what kind of boat do you have? Update us on how your trip goes. We fish the Biloxi Marsh out of BSL and plan to make a Chandelier trip in 2018

That sounds like a vessel... not a boat.

When I read the thread title, I thought it was going to be about mothershipping to bring some kayaks out the the islands.

Skule - you can ask the question on hull truth or bullnettler too - you might get more info.

Like Redneck, we fish La Marsh out of BSL, but have been wanting to make the Chandy run.

I'll report back. I'm new to this, but have read the specs are better in the spring. I"m going with guys who've done this before, so hopefully they know something. 'Mothership' is about 50', so we'll bring smaller boats for fishing.

We spend some time at the BSL maina, very nice place.

Have not been out there in several years and I am sure conditions have changed. as I recall we anchored in a channel North of North Island. our boat was about 75' and needed about 5'. If you Google earth that area there appears to be a Mothership operation out there in that area. Good luck.

Went out there last weekend. Obiviously things will be different in a month, but we had a good time with decent but not great fishing. Ended up with 40 trout and 40 redfish after two days between my brother and me, but most of it came at one time. The area has changed so much since Katrina and is more hit or miss.

That anchorage all of the motherships use is between chandy and north island. You have good water through most of that area, but take a look at an update chart because that main sand bar between them has shifted/grown. Man we used to catch big trout in large numbers this time of year around the mud lumps at north. Heard the grass beds were holding some good fish last weekend as well. Good luck out there.

I fished the Chandeleurs a lot in the early to mid 80's. Sad to see Mother Nature take it's toll on an amazing fishery & rookery.
Perhaps another 2 to 3 decades and the CI's will be all but a memory.

Same. Tied down and fished all weekend.

It was just a hair bit tricky, finding a good stretch of beach and timing the waves as you landed.
