Hell it’s what they were founded on back when they were GCCA. They opposed purse seiners and gill netters harvesting game fish. At least in La.

And people wonder why we have to eat fish from Vietnam sewage farms at exorbitant prices. Putting the American commercial fishery out of business doesn’t do the public any good.

The commercial fisherman I run into are mostly Vietnamese anyways

Might be an American owner of the boat here and there

When it comes to crabbers I’d agree. And they over fish the species worse than bottom dredging does. I regularly see one boat working 300 traps all within 10-20 yards of each other. Hard to pass through the area by boat w/o running over a bouy. Have been checked 2x this year by game wardens while fishing but never see them get checked.

The ethnicity of the people catching the seafood isn’t as important as the quality of water they’re catching it in.

In Louisiana, If you want to see visible scars from Satellite images, its the oyster boats and Mud boat trails. The oyster boats not only tear up the bottom, but they also take the habitat for the fish which also slows erosion.

Shirmp trawling isnt great, but there are worse things out there. Most Inland trawlers are switching to Butterfly nets which do not drag the bottom and drastically help the bycatch issue of flounder.

It amazes me the pull Oyster fisherman have. they can stop a 3 biilion dollar diversion...

Of course "private lakes and ponds" are just that private. But, you have to define what a private lake or pond is. According to the code of federal regulations waters that connect to navigable waters of the United States are navigable waters. The U.S bought most of the land in Louisiana. A lot of the marshland was sold by the state after they were given to the state. My question is did the state have the authority to pass navigable waters to private owners and were federal navigable waters given to the state to sell?? Both sides of the issue certainly have a dog in the hunt, especially with recent tresspassing charges getting thrown out.

It’s them and the La Restaurant Association (most powerful lobby statewide).

Between 1) oyster lobby, 2) LA Rest. Assoc., 3) LABI (and their offshoot groups), and 4) Family Forum--nothing in this state gets done without their approval.

Not to side rail, but it's nice to have our token "legislature" tho.

CCA all around is a joke. The top three priorities for CCA should be: 1) get rid of pogie boats, 2) work to keep structure offshore/near shore and stop destruction of the rigs all across LA, and 3) build marsh in Louisiana. They have failed in all three.

They are essentially a lobbying entity, so that is their sole power - to put pressure on regulators and elected officials to benefit their members.

What have you done? What else can CCA possibly do? They have been on all three of these issues incessantly. Can’t force the legislature or other authorities to make these changes.

Here are the current LDWF Commissioners. Several commercial fishermen and alligator baws and as always two token North Louisiana hands that have no pull over the coonass commissioners That group isn’t gonna ban any type of trawling or pogy boats
