The last few afternoons I have struck out with Berkeley Catfish Nuggets so I want to try something different. The target species is Channel Catfish.

I have Spam.
I have cheddar-jack cheese sticks.
I have Butterball sausage.

Unfortunately I don't have ivory soap, or jello, or any spare chicken, and the store doesn't have any chicken or livers either. I don't have any frozen shrimp. And I already discarded my crappie guts. I don't want to use worms because of bait-stealers.

Please advise me.

Gummy bears?

The cheese sticks will work. Does the store have calf heart? That works too.

Use those worms and catch some bream and cut them up or use them alive for an op

If you can catch some bluegill, whole live ones work pretty good as bait.

I've done that before with great success, but the owners don't really wanting us culling bluegill right now. Crappie and Catfish cull, release LMB's and Bluegill. If it comes down to quarantine survival, that changes things.

Upon further research, it seems I'll need treble hook to keep the Spam on, so that's out. I think I'll thread a piece of sausage on with a piece of cheese and see how that goes.

I'll keep a better stash of crappie scraps from my next crappie cull. And maybe grab a bar of Ivory next time I see it in the store, and just keep it in my tackle box for future use.

But by all means, keep the topic going. This could be a good one for future reference.

go to Super1 and buy the pink Zote soap. Or a place that sells crawfish and get the dead ones.

I just remembered.... I DO have frozen Tyson chicken nuggets.

I think that's gonna be the ticket, probably will put a little cheese cube on it too for good measure.

Cut up bream or catfish works the best for us. Stays on the hook for three or four catches sometimes.

Why can't you use a treble hook to catch catfish?

I catch quite a few on bacon. My go to baits for cat fishing the bayou are shad, shrimp, cut bluegill, bacon, worms. I have tried all of the above trying to target just catfish and not catch those damn green eel's but they seem to eat anything and suck to get off the hook without getting slime all over.

I ran jugs on Tuesday night with $0.79 hot dogs in garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Had a few nice cats. Two in the 5-7 lb range. Perfect eaters.

Because I don't have any.

I struck out again yesterday with chicken nuggets and cheese. I wonder if the catfish are fished out. One of the owners said there's been Mexicans poaching with live shad, which really pisses him off because he doesn't want shad in the lake. And a few days ago I found a trot line tied off with a threadfin on it. I'm not sure how long it'd been there, but nothing had taken the threadfin so maybe the catfish really are fished out. I might just need to take my next catfish adventure to the public lake nearby and see if I have better luck.

Cheapest red hotdogs you can find. And if you can go to Walmart they have a red scent spray by the catfish bait pour that over your hotdog and let it marinate a little while.

Cut bait//Frozen shad works well also, but may be hard to find.
