The sad thing is the nice guys like me are all too scared/threatened to hunt out there on the public lake that we maintain/pay for with our tax dollars because johnny law/good ole baws like your guide buddy are fricking assholes.

This is why I have never bothered with public land. It’s too much hassle and too many assholes involved to be worth my time. I’ll just stick to hunting my own land and lakes so that I don’t have to put up with any of that.

And God rest the soul of any poacher/trespasser I find on my place.

ETA: HB is definitely in Larto, btw. Jonesville address or not. It’s literally ON Larto Lake.

These aren't your normal Catahoula blinds. I know of multiple people out there who shoot nothing but big ducks and teal. Hunted out of a blind with friends out there last year, and they shoot tons of greenheads and pintails.

Yeah, I see he was talking about last year. I thought he was saying they shot that this season and wasn't buying it with the shitty year its been.

Because all of the reports I have heard off of Catahoula this season have been divers with spurts of teal and pintail showing up. And that's just the folks who are actually shooting a few.
OOOOOH. I just don't get why there's all this Catahoula talk with Honey Brake. What percentage of their hunts are on Catahoula? 5? I watch their show, and have never seen a Catahoula hunt. Their land is basically no different from the Delta. Teal, mallards, Pintail, etc.

It's a rotation of something like 15 blinds that used to be the Delta plus another few in some flooded timber nearby I believe.

here's another point, do the current regulations and hunting practices at catahoula degrade the hunting from what it was like in years past?

and how did it flood before the control structure was built?

I am just getting the feeling that some here think most of their hunts are on the lake.

Our close proximity to Catahoula Lake, 38,000 acres of waterfowl wintering grounds, and the Mississippi River creates a "funnel" effect that brings the best that waterfowling has to offer to Honey Brake. Located on nearly 20,000 acres of the Old Louisiana Delta Plantation, we have 65 duck blinds located in agriculture fields and moist soil areas within our Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).

I guess the rotation I'm talking about is just a small percentage of their blinds.

I assume (and I’m just guessing) that they bring clients to Catahoula who want to do a little more shooting regardless of whether the birds are trash ducks or not. Their wrp and ag field hunting can be extremely spotty like others in the area. That’s a lot of money to drop to go shoot at one snow goose, as someone I know did last year on their private land.

I know they mostly hunt the land next to the Delta and some of those flooded timber leases off Larto, but i am 99% sure they also hunt Catahoula. I just thought that Jake was saying he shot 108 out of a Catahoula blind this year and was skeptical (or maybe extremely jealous ).

Regardless, Catahoula is already a shitshow and it will only get worse if they change the status quo.

lottery, permit blinds or written permission from landowner.

works in other states with more pressure per acre....

Pretty common errywhere, it’s a limit filler for sports as are spoons. Other blind killed two yesterday for funzies. Would rather scratch than shoot them me.
X2 on eliminating squatters rights on Catahoula Lake. Let the masses that want to hunt it pay for the right and it will change just like deer hunting did after the tree companies started leasing.

Yep I agree 100%. I don’t care if it’s deemed public or deemed private....as long as it’s enforced properly either way. It’s the “half pregnant” situation we’re that’s causing the problems.

If it’s public make it a WMA or an NWR and enforce the rules

If it’s private, stop funding the maintenance and let the landowners do as they wish as far as use/leasing

Get us out of this in between bull shite

They hunted it a good bit when they didn’t have water and/or birds. HB is still on the Delta plantation, they do well sometimes, others suck arse

What’s a good year for that place? From their own site, I would figure they’re slamming the birds erryday. 5,000-6,000 should be easy with as much property and blinds they claim to hunt.

With the lack of ducks around Cenla, I’d be impressed if it will be over 2,000.
