Bait balls and a moving tide. If shrimp boats are in the area then you can probably find some shrimp.

There are a million bait ball recipes but I have only grabbed the cast net for catching to eat when I was already on top of shrimp and it was just too good to not catch. I have never baited but it works.

Pogey meal, flour, and a little water. Mix a little flour with the fish meal until it’s pretty light in color. I don’t know the exact mixture, but I don’t think it’s quite 50/50. Then mix in a little water at a time until it’s about the consistency of cookie dough.

Throw those out where you’ll be cast netting and wait 5-10 minutes for the shrimp to find them. Throw some out every 30 minutes or so.

It works!

Saray has the answer, can of dog food and an ice pick if all you need with your cast net.

Cotton seed cake and pogey oil. Did it with a guy from Savannah Ga in late 90s. He put out 10 bait balls and threw a marker behind each one. We just went back and forth throwing nets. We filled a freezer. They didn’t have commercial inshore shrimping like we do here so they got to grow to decent size.
