Cannon made a believer out me after the floods. They replaced my safe at no cost. I can tell you Liberty and the others didn’t warranty any safes from the floods. They even let me keep the old one. So I gutted it and restored it. Now I have two. My nephew just bought the one from Tractor Supply. It’s legit.

It really depends on what you are trying to protect. If all you have in the safe is a couple of hunting rifles and some family docs then by all means buy the big box safe.
I have a friend that has a 8K safe but he has a 25K Thompson machine gun in it.
I personally have a Liberty Colonial 50 I bought from Mike Wards. I believe I paid $2300 for it. Its not a 10K safe but has better locking mechs and better fire insulation than big box.

My thoughts are that any reasonable safe will stand up to the average burglar who happens upon it. On the other hand, If they are a pro or came there with tools because they know you have a safe then it doesn’t matter anyway.
The $20 angle grinder found in most people’s garages will cut through a store bought gun ‘safe’ in some number of minutes.
Depending on one’s collection, $10k isn’t a bad price relative to what the guns are worth

OP, I highly recommend you read through this site before making a purchase:
Gun Safe Reviews
Most gun safes for sale in stores only offer the illusion of security more than actual security. For example that thick looking safe door? Sheet metal folded around to look like thick steel. Overly large and complex locking bolts? Often worthless as a security enhancement.
I have a video on my phone of me flexing the door jamb of a Cabela’s branded safe with my fingers. Don’t know how to post.
Of course, a safe is just one part of security that also involves a security system, insurance for your collection, and not advertising what you own.

Also, how many crack heads carry around a giant pry bar when they break in a house?
True, but many of the tools used to compromise a typical gun ‘safe’ can be found in your garage (if you keep your tools in there).

Put a smoke detector above the safe
nothing is perfect and everyone has to find a balance of cost of safe/value of contents/level of protection
also I recommend getting a firearms only insurance policy, I got the one recommended by Wick from North Eastern and it only cost $100 / year and has 20 or 30K of coverage and is not linked to my homeowners

I’ve got a separate firearm policy through State Farm.
Just doing research, I really can’t justify spending a ton of money on one that can be easily broken into anyway

almost any safe is attack prone...
what you have to do is minimize the amount of time they have to force them open.
A good home alarm(when you actually turn it on) will not give them the time they need to acquire your prized possesions

North Eastern
Thanks. What information do they request on the guns? Serial numbers, pictures, etc?

Another point to consider is where the safe should be located. Always best to have it out of sight to any visitors or passerby to your home. And to keep it covered when unloading and moving into your house.
Ideally you want very few people knowing that you even have a safe.

I am sorry it is just Eastern insurance, no info is required for any single gun valued less than $10,000

I have this safe in the 48 gun version. I believe it’s the 48. Works as it should. I like it

Same for me... not only did they replace mine, but they upgraded me to a nicer/larger safe because the one I had was discontinued. I’ll I had to do was send them some pics of the flooded safe and the serial number

I own a Liberty. Mike Wards swings a big enough Johnson that they got Liberty to heavily discount new safes for flood victims. I had a Fat Boy and went back with a Colonial.
My dad had a Cannon. Brought it to my house after the flood (I got 2’, they got 6’). I did all the warranty myself and mostly through text message (super easy). They upgraded his safe from a 48 Tractor Supply to a 60 or 64 special order because the other was in stock and could get it to us quicker, and apologized for the inconvenience.
I will buy every single personal safe from Mike Wards because they are good people. However, Cannons warranty is 100x better than Liberty’s.
ETA: I can’t remember what size his new safe is. It’s larger and nicer though.

The difference in between popping a $799 safe and a 10 grand safe is simply a few min, a grab and run thief will walk away from both and a pro can open both.
Just buy what you want.
