Canik CZ75 clones

I know there are a lot of TP9 owners on the OB board it's a "Low cost" favorite around here. I got a chance to handle one of Canik's CZ75 clones this weekend. the particular model I handled was a C100 which is a clone of the compact CZ75 with an aluminum frame. There are plenty of CZ75 "clones" on the market who's design is based on the CZ75 but this is probably the one that is the most like a carbon copy of the original CZ. The model I handled has a giant ugly Tristar roll mark on the slide but if it wasn't for the roll mark and CZ labeled grips one would be hard pressed to tell a CZ from the clone.

Field strips just like a 75. The quality of the machined parts are top notch. Absolutely zero machine marks of any kind in a brief visual inspection after field stripping. Slide cycles smoothly. Double action trigger pull is absurdly heavy and the single action was smooth with just a little creep. I'd guess around 5lbs. There is no de-cocker and the pistol will go into safe with the hammer down (I seem to remember a CZ I handled not being able to go into safe with the hammer down but I could be remembering it wrong. I'm not a CZ expert). It's geared more for condition 1 carry with no decocker which isn't my preference. I'm not a fan of having to use the trigger to drop the hammer on a live round for condition 2 carry The slide release lever has a very long length of pull and requires me to shift my grip significantly to operate it or use my left hand to operate it. Looking at the comparison picture you can tell that the slide release is farther forward, just enough I can just barely feel it with the tip of my thumb with my size medium hands. Just like a CZ there isn't much slide to grab on to which makes racking the slide more difficult (My 11yo son who can easily rack the slide in my Sigs struggled with this one).
I've never been much of a CZ clone guy since the real thing hasn't been too much more expensive in the past. Based on my favorable experience with the Canik TP9 series and my 15 minute inspection of the gun if I were in the market for a CZ clone this one would probably be at the top of my list. By all indication that seem to be very reliable.

CZ is a clone of the Browning Hi Power.

True, My preferred clone of the browning is the tangfolio witness. Little known but been a great gun for me for 15 years.

More like a decedent.
Though I'm not sure why some of the CZ75 clones are considered clones. Not really sure constitutes a clone.

It copies the locking cam from the Hi Power, like most handguns do now. It's far from being a clone.

My post about it being a clone was a bit in jest.
I know it is not a direct clone, but it does use several features that were from the Hi power.

A lot of the Turkish clones are great guns. I came close to a Canik and a Tanfoglio Witness. Then I found a Sar k2, cloned from the CZ 97, but with 14 rd capacity. It’s my favorite semi and only ranks after my two s&w revolvers (because I like revolvers and they are sweet). Never had an issue with it.

CZ is a clone of the Browning Hi Power.
Hi Power- single action, slide rides outside the frame, grip is at a length to accommodate a 13 rd magazine flush.
CZ 75- DA/SA, slide rides INSIDE the frame, grip is slightly longer to accomodate a 15 rd mag flush (the HP mags are a little shorter.
The internal parts are very unsimilar.
The two guns do share a passing resemblance, especially after CZ changed their slide from first generation to pre-B.
quote:Well, for whatever reason, CZ didn't file international patents on the design, so Tanfoglio could literally reverse-engineer the gun immediately and make/sell it, unlicensed. That's basically unheard of, in the history of modern handguns. Especially with a successful design. Everything else we see- dozens of 1911 makes, the Hi Power clones, the Beretta 92 clones (Taurus, Girsan etc) were either licensed, the patents expired (the 1911's), or were pirated (the FEG Hi Powers).
Though I'm not sure why some of the CZ75 clones are considered clones. Not really sure constitutes a clone.
I have a pre B, and the first wood grips I put on it came from a Springfield P 09.

I bought the Tristar/Canik 100 on a whim a couple years ago and it has became one of my favorite guns to shoot.

Cz’s aren’t that expensive?
