Coco I don’t think anyone is using the boards opinion as gospel. I always enjoy seeing what quality of deer that the baws in the forum are hunting.

It helps in some circumstances, but mostly this is just for fun.

why do we still attempt to do it?

Because that's all they talk about on television hunting shows.

Agreed. There are certain things that can help determine the deers age. It’s mostly a crapshoot after 2.5 unless you’ve have pictures from previous years. Lucky to have several last year from the deer I posted. The are at least 3.5, probably older.

Hop is right suggesting more information prior to posting. I grew up in the swamp in St. Mary Parrish. We never saw deer close to the deer I see here in Georgia. It’s different everywhere you hunt.

Was watching buck commander reruns. Luke Bryan’s kid is like 8 or so killed a nice buck. Blood trails it runs up and grabs the rack and immediately says “how many inches is it”. I am very thankful my son does not have that perspective on hunting.

See. In Pearl River County unless you have 500+ acres that is a shooter buck on opening day. JMHO

Well, again not that it matters to me, but it does to some, we can attempt to score these deer too. Some of y’all are taking this a little seriously I think.

No doubt! I own 130 acres and have only seen one or two deer show back up the following year. Last season I had a decent bachelor group of three but so far none are back. Plenty of hogs though. This six point actually has better mass than the eight points I had on camera last year.

LB has a high fence property that is not very far from me. Someone shot his red deer last year from the road and left it there.

Well based on the consensus of the board it’s at least 2.5. The info about Pearl River was helpful.

I’m sure more will start turning up soon bayoudude.

Two, it keeps everything in one spot and reduces the number of threads started.
Give me a first page full of deer threads over gun threads, every time.

Science has shown that attempts for age deer on the hoof are futile. Aside from 2.5 or younger, it is almost impossible to accurately age deer based on photos or even in person encounters. Too many factors influence the outward signs og body condition, body size, body shape, antler shape, growth or size. Unless you have year over year pics showing the same deer aging year after year, you're likely pissing in the wind.

I for one know I cant do it. In the woods I can kinda tell a mature one..it just moves different....but still pics are a mystery to me.

The pics I posted are from Liberty, MS. We have had the 500 acres for 3 years and have seen an improvement in quality. Trying to feed more protein.
Shot this one 12/28/18. Only mature buck we’ve taken.
