What you're describing is called a straw purchase, not only is it illegal, it's a felony for you and your girlfriend. After a felony conviction and a stint in prison, you'll never touch another gun again.
From the ATF:
quote:
Where a person purchases a firearm with the intent of making a gift of the firearm to another person, the person making the purchase is indeed the true purchaser. There is no straw purchaser in these instances.
As long as the gift receiver is legally allowed to own that gun, it is not a straw purchase.

Not true. 'Bottomlandbrew' can't legally buy it because he isn't a LA resident nor does he reside in one of the neighboring states, therefore he can't receive it as a gift. That would defeat the whole purpose of the straw purchase.
Do you think you can go to New Orleans and give the hooker money inside of a birthday card and not be busted for solicitation?

Maybe you should read before you reply.
As I said before:

So, why not let her buy the gun and you just borrow it from her? You people aren't very smart sometimes.
Like going to Arizona to hunt and borrowing a rifle from a friend, what's the f'n difference.

Ruger 10-22. Put a scope and heavy barrell on it and you will be a squirrel assassin!

A Ruger 10-22 is a great gun, but if you don't mind loading a tubular magazine the Remington 552 Speedmaster is a very accurate rifle. If you want to spend around 350 you can get the 552 BDL grade with checkered stock, which will always be collectible.
The 572 Speedmaster is one of the finest pump 22's ever made.

Have her buy the freakin gun, you use it when ever you want, transfer your residency, obtain the gun from her, no felony.
Not that hard.
Not that hard.

A little update. I was home for the holidays and took the advice given and legally went with the Ruger 10/22. Taking it out to my girlfriend's property this weekend to break it in.
