Buying a used boat from Mississippi

I am looking to get my son a used boat from a seller in MS, and bring it to LA. The seller said "he has a registration card for the boat, but MDWFP has the title". Does this sound right? I have never boat a boat from out of state before, so any help is appreciated.

you will need to get the title in order to transfer it.
the registration card will indicate it has a title. the La dwf will not xfer it unless you have this

Hard copy of the title is the only way Louisiana will register it. If they dont have it, pass on it and look for something else.
Louisiana refuses to register my trailer even though it was originally titled in Louisiana because it spent 10 years in Texas who doesnt register or title trailers.

Dealing with LDW&F when it comes to titling a boat has led me to passing on several great deals on out of state boats.

Yes. It's optional in MS, but a lot of lenders require it, so they likely had it financed.

Yeah, I bought a boat in Alabama which has no trailer plates... I eventually gave up trying to get the trailer registered. Total clusterfvck.
