I own a Beretta PX4 Storm and love it:
I also would not hesitate to buy a Sig Sauer or Springfield XD. I'm just not a fan of the Glock for whatever reason. I don't have anything bad to say about them. I just don't want one.

Ehhhhh
I dont think you can over-stress safety. Ive had a gun go off completely on its own before. It can happen. Even the sacred almighty fail safe glock is a mechanical device and can easily fail.
While i agree familiarity with the firearm comes from practice, you still cannot over stress safety.
Or is "stress safety" a reference to fumbling around fir the safety when somebody is shooting back?

That's what I was going with.

Yeah. I didn't know what else to call it.

I think the "stress safety" problem is greatly exaggerated. If you practice with your gun at all... it shouldn't be a problem.
+1. I at least want the option for my gun to be on safety, so I went with the m&p 9c. It's just muscle memory to flick the safety off every time I raise up. You can always carry with the safety off if .5 second (or however long it takes) concerns you.

Yeah, I just leave my safety set to fire, but I don't keep one chambered.

Gotcha. Yea im pretty sure that im familiar enough with my blackhawk to hold my own in a shootout as long as i dont have to reload. Definitely wouldnt be my first choice, but ive shot it enough to be pretty quick and accurate with it.

TATL's take on safeties:
Long gun users who use their safeties often feel that their pistols should have one too. My opinion is that outside of military users, there is no good use for a long gun safety because you shouldn't be walking around with it loaded anyway. Maybe if you're stalking or maybe in the stand, but even then it's doubtful. Lots of long guns will fire if dropped when loaded & cocked whether or not the safety is on.

Yea im not quite sure why someone would be opposed to a safety on a hubting rifle. Not like youre gonna die if you dont get it off fast enough.

Not only that, he has part of it backwards. M&P is where no safety is actually a good idea.

Im indifferent on them on self defense guns. If it doesnt have a safety than i want a long deliberate trigger to keep me from shooting nyself in the arse on draw. I would personally rather have one on a carry semi auto.
A hunting gun MUST have a safety or an exposed hammer IMO.

I love to just randomly pull on the trigger when I bored.

What? Am I supposed to cycle the bolt every time I see a deer?

How do you keep your hammer on your 336?
Posted on 5/3/12 at 9:56 am to AlxTgr
Half-cock with the safety off when its in my hands, half cock and safety on if its on my back.
Posted on 5/3/12 at 9:57 am to AlxTgr
Hammer on half cock.
The only time I use the 336 safty is when unloading it, just for extra precaution.

When my .22 is on me or in the truck or boat I keep the hammer resting on the hammer block (completely down), I have it over a live round if it's just sitting in my truck but walking through the woods or in the dry box in the boat I keep it over an empty cylinder.
