Buying a handgun

Just wanted to get some of yall's opinions on buying a new handgun. I own and have shot many guns (rifles, shotguns, I have a 22 pistol), but with all the robberies going on in neighborhoods and the people wanting to avenge Travon's death, I have decided to go ahead and purchase a handgun. Where is the smartest place to start in this process? TIA for your help

So you like revolvers, double action/single action, single action only?

Go shoot some and find one you like best. I'd recommend > .38. Practice a shitload with whatever you get.

Get a Glock. 1911's are pretty unreliable.

Budget?
Sounds like you have a bit of gun knowledge. You will get all kinds of recommendations of everyone's personal favorites.
For a simple and first time handgun for self defense it would be hard to argue with a Glock.
Pick whatever caliber you'd like. Glock's are super simple and one of the most reliable pistols out there as well as not very expensive.

Go to your gun store & get the one that feels the best to you.
It would be best if you could shoot someone else's first but make sure it is what you want.
Then before you purchase it come & ask the OB's advice

If this is your reasoning for buying a handgun you will benefit by purchasing a long barreled, shiny one.

Might I suggest that, instead of asking for opinions here, just go to a gun store and ask the guy behind the counter what you should buy.
The usefulness and value of the answers will be about the same.
