If money wasn't a factor, I'd prefer high end AR over AK. However, taking everything into consideration (pricing, reliability, ease to find parts/accessories/ammo)...I'd go the route of an AK- only if you can find one at a decent price. Definitely not 900+ for a bargain AK.

Talking purely SHTF scenario, I think you have a better chance of finding AR parts than AK parts here in the US.

However, in the current environment I believe you're right.

While true, odds are you won't be needing to find new parts if you own an AK

May be worth a phone call or something, I dunno if they ship or not. I was at a friend's hunting lease with him and we stopped in there and I saw the banner advertising. Dont buy mags from them though, they wanted $40/piece for aluminum.

Same, plus I was already familiar with it from the military and law enforcement.

With an AK I'd be starting from scratch and would be picturing myself wearing a large sheet and a towel on my head.

The counter argument to that is that AKs dont break, who needs parts once you have mags and ammo?

Exactly! I started with a couple AKs, now I have almost everything I need for an AR build. I would definitely suggest owning both since they each have their pluses and minuses.

Scapel v hatchet argument.

I hunt with my AR (scapel) but keep the AK on the tractor (hatchet).

You need 223/5.56 and 9mm for when DHS comes for your guns. That way when you defend yourself against them you can use their ammo.

Solid point. Always use the scavenger perk

And find out which neighbors own guns and what caliber they're shooting too.

The savenger point has its merits. However, I know just as many people with aks as I do with ars.

Don't pay that price for 7.62x39 ammo. A bunch of us on the OB will sell it to you for less than that

I understand that is high price for it. However, compared to $20 a box for brass .223, $8 a box for 7.62 is reasonable. I have more that a few rounds of 7.62 for the sks I have, but wish I had more mags and cheaper mags, and a more reliable 30rd mag. All of that = Ak. Just not gonna buy one right now. Maybe after the invasion I can kill enough commies to scavenge a few.

I'd sell you a solid Yugo Pap M70 with a $150 aftermarket CeraKote on it for the price that people are asking for Wasrs
