building a pond

OK, I might be crazy but I am in the process of building a 4-6 acre pond. I have been digging and selling dirt out of it for about 2 years now and now I am at the stage of getting ready to fill a portion of it with water this fall. The current size is around 3 acres. Most is around 20' deep. My plan is to fill this portion around 5-7' now and stock my feeder fish this fall and next spring stock bass. I thought this board might find this interesting and helpful recommendations are encouraged. Looking the have about half the pond in that 20' depth range ultimately and the other half a more shallow area 5-10' with more structure. Trying to collect broken concrete and riprap to create structures.
I have browsed through the pond boss forums, just thought I would throw it out there to you guys. I appreciate cajun ingenuity.
First question is does anyone have any creative fish habitat structures they recommend, hopefully do it yourself types.

Nothing to add, but this is pretty cool.

I am building a concrete boat ramp. Will do that in the next month or so. Just working on grading it right now and removing some dirt for it. Trying to get that slope right.

Aren't the fall and the spring bad times to stock due to the potential of turnover?

Might want to touch base with NASCAR Fan, he is an authority on ponds and pond building.

I like it. Few questions. How are you planning on filling, and keeping a constant water supply there? Does the bottom have enough clay to prevent flow? Make sure your clay cap is placed wet of optimum.

Those timber piles, how to keep from floating them when you flood it?

Pretty sure this size is out of his expertise. To him this would look like someone is digging one of the Great Lakes.

Our 4acre down to 20 ft has aeration problem, do you have plans for aeration?

I will have a 5 hp well to keep it full, and will figure out a way to get the water oxygenated. I have hit a good layer of clay at that 20' depth and actually 3 separate layers on top of it. Trying to bring it up the side slopes to avoid seepage. Had an area that has held water in it for the two years that I have been constructing it even through the summer, but I know I need more drainage area flowing to it as well to avoid so much pumping of well water. Will cut swales throughout the property to help collect water as well. Its kindof a learn as I go process.
As far as the fish stocking I am uncertain of the timing of it all. Was going to talk with dunns fish farms and see what they recommend.

You must be moving a lot of dirt, I see a lot of equipment in the photos

spoke with a guy on this as well. He said that if you slowly raise the water they will saturate and not float. Also was told maybe to do tee posts and wire to help hold them down. Also could dump some dirt on the top of them. Not real sure how this is gonna go. Kindof want to see a good rain and fill it up a foot and see what happens then adjust accordingly. I don't want to start filling it until fall hopefully but a tropical storm could change at that I suppose. Supposed to get another 1000 load dump truck hauloff job that is easier to do if I can keep it dry for another couple months.

this particular job moved 3700 trucks over a 3 week period. Tired of moving dirt because it just creates a dust storm here. Thats why I am trying to wrap this up this fall, wife is tired of dealing with all the dirt.

PVC pipe structures about 15ft tall and as wide and big as you want in a couple places. get creative with design. SOme folks just like to make them resemble trees, others like jungle gyms. cement them in place and they will be there longer than you.

Are you giving them the dirt as a trade off for their equipment used to dig it?
