Brooksville FL, What Can I Do There?

I'm going to be working in brooksville FL for 5 weeks or so starting around the end of May. What kind of outdoor fun can I do? I assume there will be some fishing. It looks like it's only about 15 miles from the beach. Anybody have any experience with the area?

Train your hawk to grab bikini tops off the beach.

Me: "Mind if I tie this dead rat to your bikini?"
Pretty chick: "Go for it."
Win.

If you have a boat or Kayak, it may be okay. To be completely honest, Brooksville is a pretty bad part of the state. There is a crappy little island area called Pine Island. It is marshland areas more than beaches.
I would suggest Tarpon Springs as a close alternative for food and fun. Tarpon Springs is a Greek village that has some amazing food and lots of fun. It is less than an hour away. Also, Clearwater is relatively close by. It is a beautiful place.

Brooksville is very rural and about 45 minutes from Tampa.
As for what to do, you'll have fishing and that's about it. You may be able to find some pigs in the area as well.

Have I stumbled into the OT? How is rural and fishing bad? I'm old and married. I'm done with the beach scene.

Your kinda catching the area at an off time. The big bass will be off their beds but you can still get into them. If you can get out there will be trout and Reds to be had inshore. If you head South you may find snook too. Fishing is good in the southernmost part of Tampa Bay and so-so in the northernmost sections around that time.

What about a kayak and flounder?

A kayak would be ideal and flounder can be found in and around Ft DeSoto Park...

If you have a kayak, try fishing Homosassa or just a little north in Crystal River its probably a 30-45 minute drive.. The tarpon are about to run in that area off the beach.
