20 lb braid is pretty tough. Wrap it around the boat cleat and put it in reverse.

That is why I won't try it. I don't lose enough fish to switch. I can't horse in bull reds but I don't target them anyway.

Only time I get broken off is usually my fault. I have been on the trout and don't re-tie my bait when I feel all the knicks in my line. Also with Trout I think you would want more stretch b/c of their soft mouths.

I use 20lb powerpro also. I keep a few rods around, softer action for trout, stiffer rod for reds. I always have to put a floro leader on as you never know when that snook might show. They have razor sharp gill plates.

The biggest reason why I want to fish florida is for snook. They look like a blast to catch.

I haven't had anything on my spinning reels but Power Pro since 2004. I fished a tourney in FL (gin clear water), and that's the only time I've used a flouro leader. Maybe it just takes a little getting used to, but to me, the only time it's a problem is if you set the hook too fast, and there's no stretch to offer forgiveness. The solution is to not set the hook until you feel the fish, which is what you should be doing anyway. Like with topwaddas. I love watching people setting the hook as soon as they see the blow up.

The castability is WELL worth it, and the fact that you don't have to change line NEARLY as often. That, along with having to worry less about abrasion is enough reason for me to use it.

BUT...learn the palomar knot. That is the best knot to use with braid.

I haven't broken a single rod, haven't scarred my reel seats, rod guides, nothing. I have never had a problem with Power Pro. I use it on my ultra lights too. As far as the fish seeing it, if you're fishing in LA, hell, Power Pro is about the same color as the water anyway. (I fish the marsh 99% of the time) But I have seen Chad Dufrene take a black sharpie and color the last 3 or 4 ft of his Power Pro. Over time, it does fade in color and turn greenish white. That's when he colors it black.

I just loosen the drag when fishing specks.

The hook will likely straighten first.

I've been using power pro for a few years now. Never broke a rod. Sometimes I use a mono leader - mainly when cork fishing. I find without it, the braid and cork get all fricked up and I waster too many casts, only to have to reel in and untangle my cork. Also with a topwater. Otherwise, I just tie jig/lure/hook etc straight on.

yea typically the hook will give way, the PP rarely just "snaps". Instead your knot is likely to give out. Could tow a boat with it!

Bump.

My new Chronarch E7 should be in the mail today and I'm debating on spooling it up with braid or mono. I usually use mono on my baitcast reels for no specific reason other than I just like it. This will be a primary speck/red setup btw. Thinking maybe 20 or 30lb power pro.

Eta: I really like to rip lips when fishing on the bottom and I'm afraid I would miss more fish with the lack of stretch from the braid.

I'm overly excessive with hook sets though.

Especially on ultra lights. Its the only thing i found that doesnt go to hell on those little line twisting bastards.

This. Also, if you are sacalait fishing and you get hung up you can just pull on it to straighten the hook out. 2 seconds with a pair of pliers to fix the hook and you're ready to fish again.

It's all I use now. In fact, in the winter, the trout bite is so soft, you will catch more fish with the braid i think.
