I called Schaefer's in Bucktown a few months back and they had them, but they were frozen in 50 lb. boxes and that is way more than I needed or wanted at the time.

Like for bait? Isn't that something you can cast net for? Plus, you can have live bait for a while until they kick it.

Bait for crab traps, works better than chicken. I use fresh caught mullet, with a few slices on the belly when I catch them, I don't always catch them though and they are pretty cheap to buy.

Baton Rouge Area

Yes they come in 50lb boxes, usually pretty cheap though.

Try turkey necks. They are tough, greasy, cheap, and your hands and freezer won’t smell like arse forever.

The crawfish buyers in Bayou Sorrel and Pigeon sell boxes of pogie/ menhaden. They are usually about $26/ box . Try Martinez Seafood at the Sorrel bridge.

Look for cow spleen/melt, too. Crabs love that stuff. Melt and chicken leg quarters will tear crabs up if they're in an eating mood.

There is a place on Chef Menteur. I can’t remember the name. Good luck.

P.S., will edit if it comes to me.

Call Atchafalaya Basin Seafood in Krotz Springs to see if they have them. It’s my understanding they are a large crawfish bait dealer.

My guy said there was a place in "croz springs" but he didn't know the name of it... guess he didn't know the name of Krotz Springs either. Thanks for the name of the place! If the place in Metairie doesn't have them I will take the trip to Krotz Springs
