About how many years do y’all get out of a bow string? Is there a baseline rule for years or shots before you should change it ?

I'm going on 10 years now, but I've kept mine waxed and in good condition, so

It’s mostly based on # of shots and how it’s stored. Usually about 2000 shots it will start to fray and needs replacing. Regular waxing and stored in climate controlled helps.

Every year is say I’m gonna change mine, I been saying that since 2007 !!
I shoot a couple hundred shots leading up to the two months before the season and have kept it waxed and stored in a closet.
It may blow up this year but so far no issues, winners choice by the way.

I would think more like 2,000 personally...if cared for

Definitely important, as well as not letting it sit inside a hot vehicle for any length of time and watching for wear at the D-loop attach points

I easily have more than 200 shots on my bow string, and it's nowhere near needing replacing.

Hell, 200 shots is pretty much what you need just to break in a bow string. And if you do any serious amount of shooting, you will take more than 200 shots in a couple of weeks.

I'd go broke if this was anywhere close to true

I change mine basically every year or two. If I don’t hunt in the rain or snow I think they last a lot longer. I’ll usually hit a point in tuning where I notice they have stretched and they are a little fuzzy so I just order new ones and start from scratch.

Mine is about 6 years old and I keep it waxed and it’s stored on a gun rack in my room. I’m asking because this year I started shooting a month ago and noticed all my shots are tight grouped like normal but low. Has my string stretched?

I changed my last set after I nicked the string with my broadhead in the dark. It was 5 years old at that point.

I keep it waxed and stored in a hard case. If it starts to fray and twist real bad where I have to adjust my peep sight before every shot, I'll change to a new set.

If it's a one cam/solocam bow then positively yes...they always start shooting low when the bowstring stretchs out because it moves your nock point up.

Not sure about binary/hybrid cam bows. I would imagine they just draw a touch longer.

Pretty safe bet as long as your arrow and grip/anchor haven’t changed. Pretty normal and a simple tune will correct by putting a few more twists in it and resetting nock point.

I used to change my string every two years but now I find it does more harm than good to be constantly chasing break-in. No matter what a string company claims about pre-stretching they all will stretch significantly during the first 100-150 shots and then slightly after that for the life of the string. Some of the most out of tune bows in the woods were in the shop two weeks ago. I shoot a group through paper every so often and if tailing high then I either adjust the loop down or take it in depending on how bad it is.

Mine lasted about 10-12 years, but popped on me last week. Waiting on it to be restrung now.

Lawd. Back when I was really into archery and competing, I would have had to change my string every couple of weeks, at that rate.

You should probably change them every couple of years, just out of principle. But, keep it waxed, and watch for broken strands, or sudden stretching, and you can get away with longer, especially if you don't shoot much.
