Slick trick for fixed. Shot some nap spitfires with amazing results as well. Very few bad broadheads if you by a good brand.

Spitfire. I never had a problem with them. Always get a pass thru.

I don't like mechanicals and their risk of malfunction and less penetration, so I prefer fixed BHs. I'm trying Magnus Black Hornet Ser Razors this year...read lots of good reviews, hope to find out first hand.

I've shot rage for several years and never had an issue with them opening on contact. Especially with the new collars.

I don't like fixed blades and their risk of planing off target and less cutting diameter.

Propaganda derived from bad shots being blamed on equipment failure. Like the dufus out shooting his 9.5mm Kixmoore Magnum at midday on opening weekend because a spider web must've bumped his scope off zero on the way to his stand and caused him to miss a deer.
Penetration, I'm not shooting armored tanks, I only need an arrow to slice through 18'' of slimy deer organs and I've found that the deeper the arrow goes into the ground afterwards the better chance of it getting stuck in a tree root. I prefer deer damage over dirt damage. I shot thunderheads then slick tricks prior to switching to mechanicals and have witnessed the increased devastation first hand in the field. When Grim Reaper says, "Watch'em drop" they're not just whistling dixie.

This is not propaganda, If I were to shoot a deer in the shoulder with rage what would happen? I realize the rages will do the job but what if I miss by an inch? Personally I would like a fixed blade for insurance purposes.

And I've witnessed long tracking jobs and lost deer due to lack of pass through and sparse blood trails.

We could argue for days...there really isn't a "right" answer. Go with whatever you're confident in and aim small, miss small.

This might be sacrilege, but I’m going to carry 4 Rage hypos and two G5 Montecs this season.

On short shots there isn’t enough variation to worry about the fixed blade and if for some reason I find myself in an odd angle, I’ll have the option.

Depends on your setup

Shooting a Rage Hypo with a 450gr arrow and 14% FOC at 308 FPS it will pass through.

What if you miss back with a fixed head? The odds of finding a gut shot deer go way up if you are shooting a 2” cut mechanical vs a 1 or 1.25” cut fixed head.

Both have their pros and cons. Light arrows, short draw, and low poundage do not work well with mechanicals. Conversely, anything shooting over 280ish FPS is going to be hell with a fixed head. The smallest amount of variance from good shooting form is going to cause big issues, and we all know you aren’t going to be able to always maintain consistent form in hunting situations.

This, there is no one size fits all, pick your poison and cater to its weaknesses by adjusting your hunting style. Me, I hate a blood trail so I take 30yds or closer high percentage shots using big arse mechanicals.

Always used NAP Spitfires with no problem.
The Ram Cats are becoming very popular with a lot of bow hunters.
