F-That. A fricking boating license? Are you kidding me?
You clearly have never been stopped and hassled in another state over not having your boating license. It's BS and I fricking hate it.
If you had it, you wouldn't be hassled about not having it.

But I don't need it.

but we're talking about a one time test and nominal endorsement fee on your license. I don't see that breaking the bank.
Some lakes already require this so I got mine and it's a joke. You can do it on the computer in 2 hrs while looking up the answers so it doesn't teach you shite. Waste of time and money.

I'm sure every jackass I've encountered on the water would say the same thing. Not saying that you are incompetent, but a lot of boaters are dangerously incompetent and ignorant of the results of their actions.

Hence why it would need to be more structured. It may be a "waste of money" to you or I, but I'll spend that money if it means that the hundreds of boaters at there that do need it will have have to get it.

so this is all I have to keep up with for owning a boat and fishing it:
Trailer inspection
Trailer registration/license
Boat registration
boat safety equipment (fire ext, life jackets, flares, etc.
Basic fishing license
SW fishing license
Offshore landing permit
crab gear license
trawl gear license
Tuna Permit
Vent tool
De-hooking device
Boater safety license (if not old enough to be grandfathered in)
...and only 2 freaking snapper per person for 9 a nine day season. One more thing to keep up with can suck me.

I think Cane River is one of those places that requires a boating safety card

Do you not purchase your licenses at the same time? Itemizing it like that makes the list longer, but nobody buys them on 5 different occasions.
Also, safety equipment, de-hookers, and vent tools are things that just stay on your boat, no?

We rolled up as this went from bad to worse. Boat was grounded on the submerged rocks with a sea tow catamaran working alongside it. Suddenly, the water caught on fire behind the boat, maybe 10 yards, and then the fire moved quickly to the back of the boat and there were two small explosions. At the time of the explosions there were 4 people on board the boat and most of them quickly got off except the captain who was at the helm..he eventually bailed and that's how he got hurt (we think). He hit his head on the rocks or maybe the boat on the way down. Not sure what the boat name was but the Sea tow nor the boat that was grounded could communicate to the Coast guard so a boat named Tiger Bait was doing so for them. It was a crazy arse situation but everyone seemed ok except for the head injury.
Don't just roll around the passes of Venice without knowing what you are doing..it has to be one of the most difficult places to navigate that I've ever been.
Side note: We went offshore and got a mess of chickens, 5 yellowfin and 5 rainbow runners. Rainbow runner was excellent sashimi!

What Big L said don’t go blasting around the delta if you don’t know the way. I was almost in a similar situation – got invited to fish on a Bertram (28 or so) back in the day w/ an owner that was not familiar w Venice. Out we went – had a good day, trolled caught some hoos and tuna, dropped for an AJ or 2 and caught some snappas (obviously this was yrs ago before the no more fishing service got a hold of things) and as we were going back in south pass (having come out SW pass) the boat owner was going to run over the rocks – this was before plotters etc were affordable ( we had GPS). I had gone out of S pass enough to know of the weir so when we were a few hundred yards away from the weir I pointed it out got him in the channel and away we went. I stayed on the flybridge for the rest of the trip up the Miss. He was a nice guy and had a nice well equipped boat but not familiar w/ the delta and we didn’t have a crew boat or another sportfisher to follow so we were on our own.
Big L is right about rainbow runner - excellent sushi/sashimi, I like trigger too as sushi but the no more fishing service probably has shut them down too

Yeah but they expire, fall overboard, rust out, etc. and no I don't get all licenses at same time bc I have a lifetime but most don't.
