Apparently a rec. boat with 4 people aboard ran into an oil tanker before daylite this morning. Near the ferry. 1 confirmed dead, 1 in hospital, 1 in Coast Guard office interrogation, and 1 missing in water. All traffic in ship channel and Lydia Anne has been stopped including very large oil tankers.

With the in/out tide running at 4 knots at that point the missing body could be 8-12 miles east or west of the ferry.

If you are going to run wild, before daylite, run into things,,,be considerate and wear a life preserver. That helps finding the body

It was a pretty good sized Sportfisher. Prayers up for the family's involved, I'll wait to hear the circumstances before casting blame.

A 42' is what I heard, haven't been given a name yet. Doubt they were on AP in that area, it's a very congested area. I believe it was storming pretty good around there at the time, they tie up barges in that area I thought maybe one got loose and was sitting in the channel with no lights on it but apparently they either hit or was hit by a tanker that was being escorted to the Corpus Harbor. The pilot boat that was escorting the ship rescued the men in the water. I've seen it report both ways, so I'm not sure what happened, like I said before I'll hold off on placing blame for now. One thing I will say is, by looking at that photo it sure doesn't look like they ran head on into the side of a tanker.

That essentially doubles the search area!

Looks like the SF was run over mid ship or further back. They were either crossing in front of the ship, or they were adrift with no power and were run over.

Port A pass is a one tide day, so tide goes east 12 hours and then goes west 12 hours. Thats a generalization for those grasping for tide data.

Search suspended this morning, feel terrible for the family. CG released the name of the SF (Todo Bien) this morning, no names of the men involved yet.

The search for the missing man covered 127 square miles over 44 hours. It was suspended at 10:35 a.m. today, Sunday, July 14, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Perry Shirzad of Sector Houston U.S. Coast Guard. Water and weather conditions also factored into the decision, he said. The search involved divers, boats, helicopters and airplanes.

Assuming the sporty lost power? How do you hit a barge in the morning with little other boat traffic otherwise?

Still waiting on the official report, story I have heard around the docks is the SF met the Oil Tanker in the channel, they passed to the side of the tanker but was too close and the back end was sucked under the tanker and the SF broke in two. Had to be an absolutely horrific scene if true. I'm sure the Coast Guard will an official report at some point. The tanker was a 274' ship under a Singapore flag, it is currently docked under "Restricted" status in the Port of Corpus.

Those fricking tankers suck up some water. We were loading out a bigass jacket in Aransas pass. The barge had load spreaders welded to the bulkhead, I am talking about 6 foot tall beams. A tanker passed going too fast and broke the barge loose from the bulkhead.

What get's me is looks like the windlass is out in first pic, could be to keep it from drifting for the recovery.

Or where they at anchor with loss of power and tug clipped them, basically being pulled from both ends.

Other thing is the flybridge is crushed flat, I'm wondering if all the wiring being pulled from the power room flattened it. What a nightmare and prayers to all.
