have no experience tracking or hunting them. All i know is my game cam caught them at 4:30 am. Any advice on where to start would be appreciated
I do not either but here is where I would start.
Use a 55 gallon drum and anchor it to the ground with some mobile home stakes right next to current chicken coop. Cut some small window holes in drum and cut out a door with a metabo that can be opened and then locked closed.
Keep chicken in drum at night and place a tactacam cell camera facing drum. Sit up drinking bourbon till midnight waiting on text from cell camera the do what ever you feel needs to be done.

Keep an eye out, Roger. I was listening to a podcast about vultures the other day and the woman on it (she works with them for a living) said Turkey Vultures had begun to expand their range into different parts of Canada and Alaska. That kind of surprised me, so I looked it up. I found a couple of articles talking about sightings in different parts of Alaska. They're still rare, but they are moving in it sounds like.

Oh hell no………
That’s just no fear of man what’s so ever…… that’s not good at all. Someone is going to get mauled by that bear sooner or later…..
How good are you with a crossbow?

I'm in S Louisiana along the Vermilion River and the bears destroy my tripod deer/corn feeders. Im pretty sure the game warden wouldn't accept that as an excuse to kill them???

I was told that one would have to tear your leg off and MAYBE they (LAFWD) would not charge you for killing a protected species.

Probably just a black trash bag, baw.

Electric fence. Leave a dog in the yard overnight. Solar powered motion lights with sound.

Electric fence. Get a charger unit strong enough for horses and cattle. Once they hit it wont return.

You really thought screwing the door shut would work? You should have gone to tractor supply and bought an electric fence as soon as you heard about the neighbors. Your fault, not the bears being bears.

NC They ripped the door off the coup which we have been screwing shut at night once rhis happened to our neighbors.
What city?
We had a black bear within two blocks of us inside Charlotte city limits last two years.

Sounds like mountain lions are moving up from BC too.
Its not enough that we have two types of bears locally, wolves, woverines, moose....now we are gonna have mountain lions.

Lots of ravens (which are really cool birds) and eagles.
Eagles are our buzzards. They will snatch a seagull out of midair though.

Electric fence for cattle is a good idea. Bird shot to the arse from 20 yds sounds good too

Get some outside dogs. Bears tend to stay away from outside dogs. My cousin doesn't have any outside dogs and the bears are always getting into her trash. Her up the hill neighbor has outside dogs and the bears stay away from that house.
Pic of one on her porch this month eating leftover dog food.

I would call wildlife and fisheries and show them your footage. Calmly explain that he is indeed “endangered” and leave it to them to come up with a solution. Poaching a black bear is no joke if you are caught.

And why would they come after you? Just don't tell anyone that you killed it.

Please don’t listen to the majority of idiots in this thread.
A few dead chickens that you were only defending with a screwed in door will not be justification to kill a bear by any game warden in any state.
If you live in bear country and you care about your chickens, defend them. You aren’t currently, and that’s not the bears fault. You are only keeping them as bear bait right now and that’s not responsible.
Bears exist, and there are very real laws that protect them everywhere in this country. You need to deal with that reality by putting in some effort if you want to keep chickens where you live.
