Biometric gunsafe suggestion?

First off, I appreciate the advice in advance guys. I was looking into getting a biometric safe for my S&W 627 5" revolver.
Do any of you guys have any suggestions? Good or bad experiences with particular companies? How much I should be spending for a reliable safe?
It seems like a common complaint with many safes is that the fingerprint scanners are sometimes unreliable.. which is a pretty scary flaw when your life depends on getting quick access to your firearm.

I wouldn't use one. Too much to go wrong in the middle of the night, in the dark, after just waking up, disoriented, adrenaline pumping and only a few seconds to get inside of it.

So a key code safe is a better choice? Any recommendations?

No gun for self defense should be locked up in a safe. For something you may need for self defense, put it on a nightstand, not in a safe.

I would agree if it wasn't for my little one

Costco has the sentry biometric on sale right now for $100. Has a key code option and a backup key as well. I got one for my FIL last year and he has never had an issue getting into it.

I agree with the previous poster that having to defeat a safe in a self defense situation is not desirable for all the reasons I listed above. I don't have kids so, unfortunaltely, I haven't really looked into other options and don't have a solid rec for you. But, my dad kept his gun under their mattress a full adult arms length in and I never knew it was there or that it existed until he showed me the gun and even then I never found it until he told me whede it was. Worked for him, maybe it's a good option for your household ..maybe it's not. Whatever you decide I think it's important to educate your kids about guns if you're going to have them in the house no matter how secured they are.

Agree 100%, but as a parent you have to understand there is still a risk. We are talking about 4 to 18 year old kids that may want to show it to a cousins, best friend, etc.. kids at that age can be told or shown the danger 1000 times, but it's hard as a parent to not still be worried. Last thing you want is them to injure themselves or someone else.
I have a Liberty biometric, zero complaints.

Same. Have little ones and the chances of them getting to it somehow far outweigh the immediate need to grab a gun in the middle of the night.
I understand both sides though.

Meet too, I choose to have an outside dog, cameras, alarm system, etc. And a biometric safe.

Yeah from what I'm reading, they seem to be the most reliable...I'm willing to shell out the extra cash for a better product.

Your best option for a reliable gun vault is one with a Simplex lock. No batteries, no fingerprint scanner, can be opened in the dark, etc.
You get a little over 1000 combinations (fewer than you would with a 10 digit keypad), but they are pretty close to foolproof. Several companies make them. Fort Knox is probably the best.

Right, so my kid that can't write his name, or wipe his own arse is supposed to comprehend a gun safety conversation.

dawg23 is 100% right here.
Lots of the biometrics or keypad minisafes are actually only “locked” by a small hook on a tiny solenoid or spring. They can be very prone to “bumping” the hook off its catch. There are tons of videos of them being defeated in this manner by children.
Sure this kid was coached but a teen can find this shite on the web easily: youtube
Fort Knox brand with simplex lock secures with a heavy bar and can’t be bumped open. When I get this kid to bed I’ll try and take a pic of mine.

Cabela's had those on sale before Christmas. I think they were $150. I believe smaller Liberty Smart Vault was either $120 or $125.
If you don't plan to put more than one handgun in it, Amazon has the Liberty 9G HDX-150 MICRO Biometric Safe for $190.
You can get it with an AC adapter on Amazon for $212.98.

I installed a Barska biometric safe in my closet. Has been very reliable with no mis-reads. Ive stored all 10 of both mine and my wife's fingerprints. Takes about 3 seconds for door to open and has 2 sliding rods that lock/unlock. Many sizes to choose from also.

Thanks for the suggestion. My Liberty safe came in and I couldn't be more satisfied. I can get to my loaded 357 in seconds. Would you guys recommend bolting it down? I rent, so I'll have to ask my leasing company about that

Absolutely, unless you want a convenient carrying case for the burglar that takes it.
