Op wouldn’t get buddies involved unless they put up non refundable money right away and you know them well. I can’t tell you the amount of trips I’ve had buddies cancel. I no longer plan on buddies showing up.

A lot of it depends on trophy quality you want and if you are bow or rifle hunting. Bow is fairly easy, plenty of great spots in the states that are top 20 but not top 5 like Indiana, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska , etc.

I would strongly argue for a more DIYer one of the biggest out of state success criteria is good weather. Too hot, horribly strong winds, etc are a major bust. If I ever get into deer hunting out of state again I’d strongly consider picking 2-3 states with OTC and going to the one with the best predicted weather last minute when I want to go. I know that’s not easy at all but just saying weather is very critical.

Northern Missouri's Grand River Outfitters

Check these guys out, we hunted with them a few years back, we had seven guys and three killed.

One guy missed

We all saw several shooters during the week, it was just getting in bow range.

Here's their website, I think it was $1,700.00 a hunter for 5 days/nights with lodging food included. They show you the stands and how to get to them, then you are pretty much self hunting.

I just saw a nice 6x6 whitetail yesterday walking the dog in Ohio. There are a shite ton of deer here. Not sure of the cost, I hunt out west.

Pennsylvania has the highest density of deer in the country

I have traveled all over this country chasing whitetails…PA - at least southern PA - would not be in my top 100. Mountainous with alot of monoculture and very little deer #s and lots of hunters.

West Virginia on the other hand…a hidden archer’s gem.

Ever hunted the MS delta man?

Its flat, farmers shoot all the deer in the spring. For sure should stay away from the MS delta.

some AI work and this is for the 2025 Season. Texas looks like a good value despite not having a short-term option. Arkansas has the best short-term options, but they are not discounted much.

I'll be going to Texas twice this season. Trying to get my money's worth.

The problem with Texas is lack of any quality public land in desirable areas. If you're not in a lease or using an outfitter you're wasting your time. No public land in the top counties in S.TX.

that maybe true, i wouldn't know as i don't hunt public land. I have some long-lasting friendships in Texas, and they help me out. I do pay them though. So, it's not free and i shouldn't expect free for the amount of work the folks put in for us.

all my trips in these states have been with outfitters as i don't have the time or means to figure out public land properly.

However, my chart is accurate to help with the investment costs to go, no matter if its public land or outfitter.

Personally I absolutely love Illinois. You may pay a few hundred more but they have some top notch public land.

Out of the 7 years I have gone, I’ve tagged out 6 of those with bow. Would have been 7 for 7 had I made a better shot on a 140 I couldn’t find.

I love everything about that area. Rural, friendly people, cost efficient housing/food

But the thing that has always drawn me back is knowing that I have a real chance at killing a booner.
