Looking for a new 12 gauge no more than $1000. I'm in North Louisiana but all my preferred local shops are quite a bit more than Academy. Willing to drive a little bit.

On a side note, if you have some brand recommendations I'd love to hear em. Not a duck hunter, mainly small game.

Online?

Just bought a new one online, models under $1000 didn't have that much price difference between Brick and mortar stores and online (other than tax savings). But above $1000 there were some differences. Worth a look, though.

A300 is the logical choice

I would look online, with buying local your choices are limited. Last gun I bought online was at my FFL in 2 days.

Got get a Remington 870 Express for 300 bucks. It will do everything you need it to do at a fraction of the price.

My duck hunting buddy has a Bennielle and regularly out shoot him.

Funny- those ducks and rabbits seem to not give a shite about the brand name....

Find what you like and buy online. You can avoid taxes at some online retailers and Gunbroker. Im sure there are several FFL’s in your area that can handle the transfer.

My brother in WM has a guy and I can get the info if you like.

On a side note, I just picked up a new Beretta A400 on Gunbroker this week.

Kinda leaning toward the Beretta A300 or the Benelli Montefeltro if I can find it priced right. Still need to put my hands on a few others.

Couple of opinions shared with me - Mossbergs kick like a mule and the old Remingtons are far superior to the newest. T or F?

Old Remington needs to be further defined. Anything during the Cerberus years was crap. Their new pistols are famously terrible as well.

Regardless versa max and V3 are decent enough. V3 is priced well. They aren’t the best for fit and finish and the clacking of the gas pistons is annoying but for the price it’s fine.

Look up northern firearms on gunbroker (Reeds sporting in real life). Call them with the gun you want. Ive never found anyone as low as them. Especially for ‘B’ guns.

Maybe I'm an arse, but what's wrong with paying a few extra dollars to help keep a local guy in business? I don't have skin in the game, but I l'l almost always pay a little more for a place that gives decent service.

Depends on your threshold for ‘a few extra dollars’ I guess.

I’ve bought about 6-8 ‘B’ guns over the years where the difference between Reed’s and LGS was over $400 per gun. That’s more than I’m willing to swallow to keep a local guy around.

I always try to buy local but if we're talking $1000 local vs $750 online, I'm going online. Give me a better price or something real close and I'll stay local.

Benelli Montefeltro

Academy or somewhere had these for like $800. I have one and highly recommend it, very smooth shooting gun.
