I want to replace the regulator on my crawfish burner. It has a cheap plastic knob on the regulator the. A close/open valve in line after the regulator. It's always a pain to start up because they have to be opened in a certain order or the regulator will close with pressure behind it and I have to restart the process (i.e.: it's not just open tank valve, open regulator valve, light).

Anyway, anyone have a regulator that they recommend I replace my setup with? The burner works fine when it has gas flowing.

BiggerBear has a great one on the cooker he made for our group. Maybe he will chime in.

I quit using regulators, I set up with quick connects and a needle valve near the tank

+1

I got that exact one from Ace last week; huge improvement over the 10 psi reg that came with the burner. Sounds like a jet taking off, but it boils quick.

PSA: When you install it pay attention to the arrows (and the words "in" and "out")on the bottom of the valve and make sure it's flowing from the tank to the burner. I had to completely sober up to figure that out on my own.

Wow, thanks guys. That's the exact regulator my dad had on his setup from when I was growing up. I'm ordering one and will get all new fittings and hoses from tank to burner just to have it upgraded.

Is this what you currently have? I couldn't get mine to work, ordered a new one, and it lasted one cooking before being screwed up again. I'm looking to replace it too

You don't need a regualtor, pipe it directly to your tank.

Not really, mine has a different regulator and an additional valve.

What would you call the green thing on the right in that picture. I'll need one of those if I can't take the old one off of my current setup.

I have that one. It doesn't work half the time and I have to beat it on the ground. I've been meaning to replace it with the red one posted earlier.

That knob tightens has threads that attach it to the outside of the tank valve.

Replace it with a brass fitting that screws to the inside of the propane tank. The smaller threads attach to the red regulator posted earlier.

Right. Was more asking what it's called specifically to search for it. I rather the hand tighten one so I don't have to keep a crescent with my boiling kit. I assume they perform the same.

A 14" banjo burner.

Boils as fast as a jet, doesn't require ear plugs.

ETA: I hate jet burners. A lot.

Mine is very similar to what shawnlsu linked to. The one that came with the burner was 15 PSI my new one is 30. Works great

If it fits on the outside it is an ACME nut

If it fits on the inside it is a POL fitting

The burner looks like this, but with the fancy red 60 PSI regulator and longer hose now.

The orifice looks like a nut/cap with a tiny hole (about 1/64-1/32") drilled in the side facing up into the open 1.5" upright pipe. (Sorry no pics)

Simple and works well.
