Why do you put the Evinrudes so high?

That's exactly how I would rank them. Maybe swap 2 and 3.

First off what size outboard you looking for? I put the Etecs at the top as far as durability and dependability. We work on Suzuki engines the most.Mercurys have their share of problems as well but are still very good engines. Also have to look at how many mercs are out there as compared to Suzuki's.

I'm not shopping around, I was just asking the OB for their opinion. Next year I'll be looking for a motor on my CajunSpecial.

After our 3rd 250HP HPDI blew a cylinder, Yahama switched us to the 4 stroke. That thing runs like a dream. All under warranty, they were very good about it.

This is what people need to understand. They are all pretty decent but they all also have problems from time to time.

Probably propped wrong. A lot of people buy props to turn 6500 to 8000 rpms. These engines are not built from the factory to handle that kind of rev. for a long period of time. They will detonate.

I am not trying to sell anyone on one particular brand, but that is a sweet deal. The price on outboards being what it is, they ought to all be 5 yrs.

That's crazy. My prop WFO will turn 6500, but I do not ever run it that high. I'm actually looking to get a new prop to bring it down.

Yeah it's stupid to run them that high. I didn't think my prop would run the RPM's up that high, but it does so I go about 3/4 to keep it tacked at 5800.

It's a 70 Yamaha with a 15". I want to take the prop from the 150, but it's just too big.

I have a brand new 200hp 4 stroke yamaha V-max and I only turn up 5100 max. Seems like it should turn up some more.

Do like the motor so far.

I'd say:
1. YAMAHA
2. Merc
3. Evinrude (etec)
4. Honda
