After our 3rd 250HP HPDI blew a cylinder,

You can get somebody to repitch the prop . Itll be much cheaper than buying a new one .
And jason do you have a jackplate ?

Know anyone around the BR area who does good work, for not too much?

I have an 06 etec and an 03 yamaha 4 stroke. I haven't had to put either one in the shop besides for maintenance.

Nope, no jackplate. I'm figuring it is either something to do with the pitch on the prop or how the motor is mounted. I'm assuming it should turn up at least 5600-5800rpm. I may have to contact the place where I bought it.

quote:That would be a good idea. I hardly ever run wot unless its getting dark or for weigh in time.Typically i try to stay around 4000-4500 rpms, which is plenty fast with a 225.
That's crazy. My prop WFO will turn 6500, but I do not ever run it that high. I'm actually looking to get a new prop to bring it down.

im turning 5750 with mine and its plenty . I dont enjoy dropping 4-8 thousand dollars fixing a motor once a year .

My 70 moves my boat pretty good. If my dad drives he'll never get it past 4000 rpms because he says thats the best gas mileage. IDGAF about that I want to get to my hole before them city slickers do.
ETA: Only time I ran it WFO is when I had a fishing accident this past summer and had to go to the emergency room. I wanted to get back to the landing ASAP and I did not care about the motor.

What pitch prop are you running ?
Posted on 3/1/13 at 1:47 pm to CajunFootball
I'd buy any Yamaha, Mercury, or Suzuki motor.

That 300 wouldn't have kept up with me

regardless of what outboard you use.... EK's Marine in West Monroe is the best around at working on them.

I'm not sure. I will have to check.

Better question, what's the best prop you've found?
Posted on 3/1/13 at 3:39 pm to CajunFootball
I have a 2002 Yamaha 200hp 2stroke ox66 saltwater that is a fricking beast, never had issues.
Also run a 9.9 Yamaha kicker 4 stroke that purrs all day on only a gallon or two; just sips the gas. It's a 2011 though so I havent had it long enough to know about problems.
