The Best Prop around is PowerTech Props made in Louisiana. If you need a Custom Prop they are the one to talk too.

My dad HATES Mercury for a reason unknown to me. I have no problems paying for one as I think now days your going to get about the same quality out of any of them, and it just depends on how you treat them.

Same here, my dad also hates them.
1. Yamaha
2. Johnson/Evinrude
3. Honda

I'm a Yamaha man. Have a 115 4stroke w/ Powertech 19p

My dad has the 150 2 stroke and I'm sold on 4 strokes 4 life

Yamaha was part of the reason I bought an Xpress boat over the others that came with Mercury motors

I run a 1884 Yamaha 2 stroke and it eventually starts every time. Can't ask much more from a motor older than most of the people here. I also really like the Tohatsus and aluminum boats. Nice little engines.

I could be a certified Verado mechanic at this point.

I've run Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury and Honda. I'd rate them as listed. All I know is that on the SKA tour, the Mercury mechanics work all night while the yamaha mechanics sit at the bar and drink with us.

Ive had 2 Mercs and 2 Yamaha's in 150 or better and Id take any of my 4 again right this second. They are all still running even though some are 15 yrs old. Had good luck with my motors.
Had nothing but mariner and mercury small motors and no complaints there either.
I would prob hate mercury if I had a verado though.

I was brought up on Evinrudes though my first 2 purchases wete Johnsons (yes I know, same motor).

After OMC went bye bye I bought a Mercury and I've had decent luck with it.

I was told "in the olden days) if you wanted speed go Merc If you were gonna do a lot of trawling Evinrude/ Johnson. But when Yamaha came onboard all the commercials went Yammies and never looked back.

I think if you take care of them they will all perform. I went Merc Optimax because it was lighter than a 4 stroke with a better hole shot. I think I would look hard at. 4 stroker next go round

The only real feature that Mercury leads the pack that deserves recognition is its ability to run thru real shallow stuff and not shut down. I have to carry long handle brushes to clean intakes on the Yamahas.
