9mm route for more power and cheaper ammo
While I agree the ammo is cheaper, none of these pocket style pistols are pistols you are going to enjoy shooting enough to want to put a few hundred rounds down range at a time. So ammo cost should really not be on the list of issues for any of the calibers being talked about.
You will practice with it and make sure it feeds the type of JHP you choose to shoot and thats about where it stop for most people.

For a true "pocket pistol" the Beretta Tomcat .32 ACP is a good choice. Doesn't carry a mean punch, but it is small and will get the job done.

I agree I was going with the LCP because the Sig P238 I wanted was over 600.00 and I just could not justify it for a pistol that would sit in my pocket. I walked into my local gun store to buy the LCP and they had the plane jane Sig P238 for 450.00..for that price I could justify spending the extra 150.00 in my mind. I don't think there is a 300.00 quality/materials difference in the Sig and the LCP...you are paying for the Sig name. If I would not have seen the base model P238 that day I would have gotten the Ruger.

they had the plane jane Sig P238 for 450.00.

Well since it sounds like you are going to be buying two guns...one for you and one for your wife then you can get the LCP and then hold off until you can find a P238 or until the P290 hit the market...
Honestly unless your wife is familiar with operating a firearm the LCP is the way to go. Hammers/safeties on the P238 make some people uncomfortable.

I was about to ask how you felt about carrying cocked and locked in your pocket. I'm assuming the hammer is not very obtrusive, but it still seems a little weird.

I've made up my mind. We're both getting LCP's
Unless I stumble across an amazing deal on a sig very soon.

I do carry it in a holster in my pocket because of this....just a mental thought of the hammer hitting something or the safety getting switched while just freely moving around in my pocket has crossed my mind. If I could change one item on the sig it would be to have a double action trigger for the first round.
But like most things its just a mindset. Once you get comfortable with its just a part of it. Cocked and locked with the safety on inside a holster is how mine is carried.
I do clean mine once a week because its amazing how much lint will build up on the gun and around the hammer.

The taurus is about the same price as the ruger, right?
Posted on 1/21/11 at 10:06 am to Uncle JackD
I would stay with the ruger.

The only Taurus I would trust is the revolver

Oh I have questions, is the laser equipped LCP really worth the extra $$$??? Who else has similar locking mechanisms as the Taurus Security System (TSS)

If your into lasers, its definitely worth the extra $$... Crimson trace makes a nice one. I'm not a big laser fan though.

The only reason I asked was I popped in the local paw/gun store and she had one in the case already equipped, I didn't take a close look at the price tag but I think it had the $548 MSRP on it

I saw one with the laser last week for $450 at Laf shooters. Not a bad deal at ALL, those CT lasers go for around $200 if I'm not mistaken

I would be awesome if I were in La

I wouldn't mind adding a revolver with my LCP for concealed carrying.

The problem is the gun has no sites....but its also a gun you are going to use in very close quaters situations where really needing to aim is not going to be a issue.
If you plan on using this 380 for a home defense which I don't suggest, but its better than nothing then the lazer may be something you want to look into but for the most part I think its really not needed for a carry pocket pistol.
