Check out the Weber "Performer". Charcoal fire with a propane "starter". You don't need lighter fluid. Small propane tank attaches to unit. My wife gave me one about five yrs ago for Father's Day. Love it.

i prefer charcoal, but hate the long start time and wasted coals when I am only cooking a couple of steaks. I would get a Weber kettle grill for when you have time, then a gas grill for most stuff. Gas tends to flare up on me.

Kingsford competition style charcoal. Ready in ten minutes. And you don't need much. Get a lot hotter than the regular Kingsford.

I have a cheap charbroil. May get a weber next when this one falls to pieces.

I have a chargrill duo and really like it. Best of both worlds.

I've stayed out of this thread because I have a Primo Kamado which basically a green egg. Other than a bigger one I wouldn't take anything for it.

For those that use charcoal, try using the natural lump charcoal. Way less ashes, hotter, and starts faster.

Ok, so I went with the Weber Performer. Got it last Wednesday and I've only been able to use it once b/c I had my wisdom teeth pulled last Thursday and I'm still feeling the aftershocks. Looking forward to maybe using it this weekend if the soreness subsides. Throw some good grilling ideas at me if you have any.....

Love my Weber Kettle grill. Get a rib rack for it. You can learn to offset cook on it and it works great. You just set up your coals mixed with smoking wood and shield with foil. Light about six coals and set them on your pile. Put the grill back on. Set your ribs on the opposite side. Choke it down so it stays low temp. Few hours later you've got amazingly good ribs.

I was really surprised how well it worked.

Same here. It seems like everything comes off perfect every time. It's the most consistent grill I've ever cooked on.

I don't slow cook on it (I have a smoker), but the grill's performance has me wanting the Weber smoker quite badly.
