How important do you guys think a mono leader while using braid is for reds.? I have always gone straight braid to bait unless it's a spoon, then I throw a swivel in there. But never really put in a fluorocarbon or mono leader to see if it benefits.
I use palomar on certain baits, but mostly e trilene.

The only time I use mono of fluoro leader is if they're spooking very easily and water is super clear, otherwise it is straight braid.

thats what i always did till i bought fluoro for a baitcaster and found out it wouldn't cast worth a damn
i saved the fluoro and use it for leader material and have noticed a difference

We have large pond my daughter always called the aquarium because of the clarity. I've seen the bass and reds act like mangroves around the bait tied to braid and a switch to fluoro they act like they've never seen a bait.

Going to have to start keeping flouro on the boat for those days that they just won't take the bait.

Braid to mono or fluorocarbon leader use a double surgeon, it's stronger than the double uni and easier to tie. (Won knot wars against the d uni) and I have used both for a long time. Braid to hook prolly Palamar but the old Rapala loop, know holds well on braid like for a top water. I think the uni is the best knot for line to hook except for braid, there my two cents worth.

Why use the mono leaser? The braid seems more natural in the water, less diameter and more action on fab rather than plastic, habit?
