I bought an 18" Echo a few months back for this very reason. The ice storm in February hit us hard with trees and limbs down all over our lease. It has performed extremely well for a $300 purchase. I only use the premix gas for the saw, however.

I’m very much in the gas for chain saw group even just a weekend guy just because if you have a big storm or a tree down you will need multiple tanks of gas which would be many batteries worth of power. It’s nice to me to have something you can run 15 hours all weekend long if need be. But there’s a lot of threads on this OP, I get any of the big brands you prefer: stihl, echo, or husky

For light, and especially occasional use, you cannot beat an electric model. I've converted all of my lawn equipment to the Kobalt ecosystem and couldn't be happier.
Zero maintenance outside of blade sharpening and topping off chain oil. Get an extra battery on ebay cheap and you can leave it alone for a long time without worrying about gas, fouling, etc.

Stihl MS 170 is the way to go.
I also highly recommend the the Stihl chisel saw blade ($25) for weed eater heads. It works better than chainsaw on saplings and small branches--if you are looking for clearing shooting lanes

I have an MS170 just for this type of use. Works like a champ.

Count me in the MS170 owner's group. Great small job chainsaw

Electric all day. Battery or plug in off a generator. Will save you 4-6 aggravations per year based on your usage estimate.

BTW: I dropped my 18V rigid impact on the concrete from waist level today and my battery crapped out instantly. It wasn't old or used much.
Oh damnnnnn that blows!!! I had similar deal with mine but dropped on grass from 6 foot ladder and crapped.

Kobalt 80 Volt is a beast.

Get the Stihl Aborist Saw. Plenty of power and balanced for 1 hand operation. It’s the best thing I have found for light work around the farm. It’s the motor of the MS170 with a handle on top instead of the rear like a classic designed saw

I'm another of many recommendations for this saw. Very powerful, easy to start.

I have a Sthil and an Ego 56 volt. I use the Ego almost exclusively now.

Honestly I just use my dewalt which is battery powered for the lease. Works fine
100% battery chainsaw. I have kobalt 40v, its amazing for occasional use around house and camp. I have the pole saw too, cant say anything bad about em.

Clearing treetops from roads and shooting lanes = camp fire wood. Have a kobalt pole saw with extra batteries that pays for itself every weekend. Need something that can handle up to 12-18" if needed. Anyone use/have an Echo?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 40v Kobalt pole saw. I'm assuming you recommend?

Highly recommend. Get an extra battery and you can go all day. Got a lot of palmettos on the place and it chews thru the stalks like butter.

I already have the saw, hedge trimmer, string trimmer and blower. Battery powered saws are handy AF. I had one battery go bad, no other problems.
