7mm-08 Savage makes a good one.

6mm Remington. Think .243+. Shot a butt load of marsh deer, never lost 1. Shoot the Remington 100 grain pointed soft point.

Only problem is I haven't been able to find bullets in about a year.

model 70 in wood is something you can pass down to the next generation. I’d love to have one.

My father bought this pre64 model 70 supergrade featherweight in 7x57 new in 1937 and it's been in my hands since 2000. We are the only two owners of it and I am going to let my 13 year old daughter start hunting with it this year. It doesn't have a scope on it right now but I'll get her a new Leupold for it soon.

I’ve got a Weatherby Vanguard in 25-06 and shoot Hornady 117 grain vital shocks. I’ve killed 2 deer with it and neither moved more than 10 yards. I shot a bobcat through the rear end and it completely blew out it’s abdomen.

The recoil is very light and it’s accurate as hell.

I do like the looks of that. Only wood rifle I have is .22 Marlin that was my dad’s. Wood is so classy.

If you are near Auburn I could put you in a Ruger American 243 on the cheap.

Weatherby vanguards are seriously underrated rifles. Every one I have owned has been an excellent shooter.

I'm just happy my youngest is ready to hunt. My other two kids takes after their mom in that department. She is already taking excellent care of it. It really is an heirloom to us.

All of my long guns are wood. None of them are a very good grade of wood, and some are pretty much ugly to honest. Plastic is more practical, but something in my mind just says a gun should have wood furniture. Until I break down and buy my first AR type rifle anyway.

I suspect that long range, ammo will become increasingly harder to get and more expensive. In my house, I put everyone on the same caliber (30.06) so we can share ammo.

A Ruger 25-06. Federal Premium Sierra Gameking BTSP. No holdover out to 350 yards and little to no recoil. Deadly on medium sized game like deer.

6.5 Grendel. No recoil. Put it on the rear of the shoulder blade. Go collect deer within 30 yards.
