Bay St. Louis Kayak Fishing

Anybody good spots to Kayak fish in the Bay St. Louis or Gulfport areas?

I don't kayak fish and 99% of the time I fish out of BSL I run to the biloxi marsh but if I had to kayak fish BSL I would fish the area just north of the car bridge on the west side. I know some people that wade fish it and catch a few trout and reds.

I fish that area all the time out of a kayak. There's lots of areas of oysters that hold fish almost year round. Start around the bridges, near shore, and work towards the middle. I prefer the East side of the bay and there is a great launch just south of the car bridge on that side. From there, you can also easily fish around the train bridge and a lot of old piling. I can only divulge so much information about those spots.
Definitely a great area to kayak fish as it's an easy paddle to several good spots. The NE corner of the bay has some decent marsh area to fish as well.

Front of the Bayou Portage area and adjacent marsh to the west would be a pretty good area to fish in a kayak.

There are plenty of public number reefs in the Bay made up of Katrina bridge rubble. Throw a cracked crab out there and the Sea Moster Drum will pull your kayak around for as long as you want. You can't eat them, but they're fun.
The RR bridge usually has a nice mix of reds, trout, and puppy drum. But not so much in the summer. I think the water gets too hot at some point and the middle of the summer is pretty dead.
I am sure there are some spots back up the river where you can catch some reds in a kayak. The only experience I have with the Bay is fishing with Shore Thing Charters with my kids when it is too rough to run anywhere else. You might want to check with Sonny and see if he can give you some tips. He and Matt are super nice guys.

Haven't Kayak fished it yet but the launch at LaFrance looks like a good area for reds. I've fished the area of cutoff and catfish Bayou out of the yak and caught reds & flounder.

Paddle out to Taylor Reef and fish there.

That's what - over 2 miles from the nearest land? As hit or miss as that place is, I would be pissed if I paddled out there and it was a "miss". Also, if you do paddle out there, make sure you know what you are doing and be safe. That's a good bit of open water with a lot of boat traffic.

Yea, but...adventure.
That's where the folks I know are fishing right now. It's doable. And you could fish the whole thing before heading back. People are pulling up some nice fish there.

Are those the rocks southwest of the RR bridge? They were jam packed with boats when we were coming back from the Biloxi Marsh Memorial Day. I've fished them before on the way out, just no clue what it's called

That's it. It's hit or miss but right now is the time of the year to try it. Also no way I'm paddling that. I've paddled out to the rubble reef east of PC harbor and the tide made it a very tough paddle and that was on .5 a mile in open water. Jailhouse reef at the mouth of Bayou Caddy would be a much easier trip in a yak if you wanted to fish rock reef like that.

do you ever fish Half Moon Island? We pass it in route to where we fish in the Biloxi Marsh and I've always thought about stopping on the way back just to check it out

I've done the same as you. Pass it, never fish it. I've never really met anyone who fishes it either. Might be a cool place to drop off a yak and explore

The moon and stars have finally aligned in my favor and it looks like I'll be transferring to a new gig at Stennis soon. I would appreciate some good Intel on Bay St Louis before I move down. Please hit me up (username@gmail) when you have time.
Cheers,

There is an active facebook group for Coast kayak fishing. I'd also ask people in there.

South MS Kayak Fishing Club. Also do monthly fishouts and a cpl tournaments. Great place to start.
