Every time I drive down to Leeville or Fourchon and pass all those areas with water hyacinths I am tempted to pull over and drop the kayak in to bass fish.

Would it be worthwhile? I have to think there are a ton of bass in there, and I hardly ever see anyone fishing it.

Thanks.

I grew up along Bayou Lafourche in Raceland. As kids, my brother and I were in that bayou all the time. We used to catch bass and bream a lot. Nothing huge, but we caught some. I remember one year they opened the locks and let the Mississippi flow through it for a while. The water cleared up and the bayou actually got really pretty. We destroyed the bass in there during that time.

Every time I go back home I can't help but think that it looks nastier than I ever remember it looking. So, I don't know what the fishing is like in there right now.

Every time they open the Mississippi River up outside its banks, fishing gets good everywhere

I'm talking about south of Larose, before Golden Meadow. Looking at all that vegetation makes me think there are a bunch of bass in there.

I'm sure there are. I haven't been down that way in a long time.

So it's not just me? We have family from Thibodaux and the Raceland area and we spent plenty of time in the area as kids and I was telling someone not long ago I don't remember Bayou Lafourche ever being that dirty.

Quick CSB: When the Classic was in New Orleans back in 2003 Skeet Reese fished Bayou Lafourche for the tournament.

Drop in around the Valentine bridge and drop some tube jigs for Sac Aux Lait.

Yeah it's always been a little on the muddy side, but it looks horrible right now. It could use a good flush.

Water has been really high too. Anyone remember a few years ago when people were pulling 10-15 sacks of crawfish out of it. 1 year it was just above Thibodaux and another year behind Adams Fruit stand.

I live on the bayou and it is definitely more muddy now than usual. I know down in Lockport around Bollinger they catch some good size bass. The bayou now takes a lot longer to drain since they put locks all the way down. The bayou is 130 feet wide by my house in Raceland and there is a lock in Lockport that funnels it down to 40 foot.

There's a big drainage ditch that comes from the sugar mill. It comes out on the 308 side right across the bayou from Nick's Seafood. That used to be me and my brother's spot back in the day. Always caught some fish right there. Sometimes we'd go up in there and catch some. Never went too far past the train tracks though.

Yes, I believe they pulled the gate from the old intracoastal and moved it there.

They have been supposed to pump more water from the river, but I guess the Donaldsonville people would lose their precious wharves.

Grew up in Larose along the Intracoastal. Always caught bass in Bayou Lafourche. Especially when they had the old pontoon bridge before they built the new lift bridge on the north side.

What's up Raceland Peeps?!

Caught many a bass in and around Lockport and Raceland area, but to answer the op, not sure how many you could pull south of Larose. I'm sure it's possible but probably won't be a ton.

I believe they are still dredging near napoleonville. That's why it has been so muddy.

It doesn't help when we get 4-5 inches of rain either. The water is finally at a normal level since the rain last week.

Man that was a fun year. I heard so many things on why it happened. The most believable one was there was a crawfish pond somewhere in Labadieville that the levee broke. The water flushed out the drainage ditch into the bayou with all the crawfish.

Sure was fun catching 6 sacks in less then 2 hours.
