Bass full of soft plastic (Toledo Bend)

So I caught this fish on Toledo back in May. Never posted it here but it did go semi-viral on fb. I’m probably outing myself if you’ve seen it but wanted to share the story here.
Actually caught this fish on a white chatterbait. Noticed it had a weedless hook shank sticking out of its throat but didn’t think much of it. Got to filleting fish that evening and my uncle said “come see this shite”.
I would have never believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes. I’ve heard of fish being found with baits, but it was an addiction for this fish. I don’t know how much longer he would have lived. Seemed healthy at the time.
Many people have accused the photos of being faked, but I assure you they are not.

He only had 3 hooks in him. Most of it was just plastic, which he either sucked off the hook or found discarded.
Even the 3 hooks could have been hangups that were broken off and he ate them off the log. We’ll never know.

What is interesting is the lack of hooks for a lot of those baits...those wouldn’t have had time to rust out so where did they come from? Just picking up the tail when fishermen set the hook?
Also, it confirms my long held belief that watermelon based colors are the favorite color of the average angler. Last thing I’ll say is that is about $48 bucks worth of worms at Toledo Town.

Wacky rig is very popular over there, and real easy for a fish to just grab part of the warm, swim off, and the fisherman jerk the hook right out of the plastic. Hence the use of o-rings on some of them.

Seeing pics like that in the Pac NW.
Plastic worms and beads are used a lot for steelhead. Beads for salmon.
Beads as big as 28mm are used in high dirty water for steelhead/salmon.
I'll only use 20mm at the biggest. If it's that dirty I'll stay home. Typically 8 and 10mm.
Worms are 6" at most. I cut my 6 into a 4" because I like the bigger diameter but also buy a slimmer 4".
It doesn't matter for salmon because they spawn once and die.
Steelhead can spawn up to 4 times.

A feller I fish with caught one in Da Pool in march that had a stomach full. He said it was almost 30 inches long and weighed just over 4 lbs. Had a belly full of flukes.
Eta: watermelon trick worm with a chartreuse tail....that might be mine.

I saw this somewhere. Crazy shite. I was flipping a creature bait the other day, had a hit , set the hook, and missed the fish. I lost my bait and put another one on, then flipped right back out. That next cast, I got hit, set the hook and caught the fish. When I got it in the boat it had one halfway down its throat and the other in his mouth.
I wish we had a bigger group here that posted about Big Sam and Toledo. I figured there would be a large contingent of bass fishermen here.

False River I set the hook on a bass on the North Flats using a 12” Mann’s jelly worm and certain jig hook I poured. My hook slipped off the braided line as I did not use the correct knot.
Two days later my buddy gives me back my 12” Mann’s jelly worm and hook which is homemade. He was laughing showing me the picture of the bass which he said weighed 5lbs.
