I have some unimproved acreage in NW Arkansas that I am thinking about putting a shipping container on for storage.

I'd like to put a couple four wheelers and few other things in there. The container itself will be mostly surrounded by trees so not getting pounded by the sun. Would it be advised to install some vents to allow air flow and heat to escape?

Also in the market for a new 4 wheeler- I am between a polaris sportsman 570 and honda foreman 520. Anyone here have either? Opinions?

My father in law bought one for his camp. Awesome for storage, however, he had to run power to it and install power vents bc the passive vents on both ends weren’t enough. The gas smell almost knocked you out when you opened the doors after being closed awhile.

If you'll put a vent down low in addition to the ones on the top the natural convection will keep air flowing. Vents at the same height won't work nearly as well.

Most importantly get it off the ground and on some old railroad ties or blocks. You want it to breathe underneath or the floor can quickly rot out.

Vent it. Plastics and rubbers don’t like sitting in basically a low temp oven.

The 520 is a more reliable motor.

I’d look at Can-Am before Polaris but you can’t go wrong with a Honda.

Picked up a 1000R Outlander XT yesterday and the thing has some balls It blows my Rincon 680 out of the water.

I think Can-Am has a 570 that might fit what you’re looking for.

I have one and did the following. But, First, Honda, Honda Honda!

I put 4 large vents in it on each side custom made 2 feet long 18 inches top to bottom and staggered them. Top two, one in center and one at far end and the bottom ones one at the front and one at the bottom. I have power so I ran an extension cord to it and put 4 cheap arse box fans in it to keep the air moving.

Put it on rail road ties and the rest is history. I will add a rust preventive coating to the top though. Mine is rusting pretty good after 2 years.

Was about to ask an ATV question, and didn't wanna clog the thread. Not to sidetrack, but for guys running older four wheelers like a fourtrax 300, do you use ethanol free gas? I bought a refuge/wma/project one in decent shape that runs good (or it did when I test drove it, haven't been able to ride it since) but its now empty and the guy I bought it from said he always ran ethanol free. Which when I was a kid and we'd ride them back when they weren't so old we just put regular unleaded.

Also, if anyone knows a decent honda ate forum or four wheeler forum worth a damn, I'd appreciate it. I'm not trying to clog up tODboard with questions about 30 year old four wheelers.

Not a forum but here is a link to google drive with all kinds of ATV service manuals. fourtrax 300 manual is on there.

LINK

I have a 1990 Fourtrax. About all you need to know to get one running is:
1. Check for spark if no spark or weak yellow spark instead of bright blue it's the coil or CDI. Buying both will cost you about $17 on ebay.
2. If you have good spark it's the carburetor. Buy a new Chonda carb (Chinese Honda knockoff parts) $30-40. The 88-90 carb is different from the 91+ carb. The choke cable threaded part is a different diameter/size. It's also really easy to clean or rebuild the carb. There is only one adjustment on the carb. The air mixture screw which is set at 1 3/4 turns out.

Watch all three parts of this youtube video to show you how to clean or rebuild your carb.

Thanks for the confirmation on ethanol free. It seems to run well now, it doesn't have brakes, per usual, but I think it just needs an oil change and new oil filter and a new air filter whiile I'm at it. I will look at those links. I appreciate the info and the website rec.

Now back to the OP's question.

If you've been running ethanol gas, and it's older, it'll be carbureted. Better clean the carb also. Ethanol is hell on carbs.

Good place for ATV parts is Rocky Mountain ATV Parts Online. OEM parts reasonably priced and fast shipping.
