Are bass clubs still a thing, or was that just a 1970's and 80's fad?

Still pretty big in my opinion. BASS Nation is made up of BASS clubs and winner of BASS Nation championship gets a spot in The Bassmaster's Classic.

Local or national? In the early 90s my co-workers fished local tournaments regularly and I believe they were part of a local club.
I had a cousin that fished only night tournaments... which seems very tough and dangerous.

I think that they are. All you need to do is see the La Top-6 tourney on Toledo Bend...

Clubs are still going strong, but the 150+ big annual tournaments around here have died out.

Went to run my jet ski Thursday night just to work the kinks out of it and there was about 20 of them in the water at the launch waiting to get the "go" signal.
I'll say this in an attempt to not offend any bass fishermen because I love to chatch them at much as anyone but most of them bastards take that shite WAAAAY too serious. Not 50 feet past the no wake buoy they was all hammer down, trimmed up to the max and WFO. PIss on anyone else trying to get into the marina.
Any Lord help you if you're fishing a spot and one of these entitled frickers pulls up on you. They act like they caught you climbing out of their bedroom window.

Fisher's of Men North Louisiana
Pretty popular and most lakes have Thursday Night tournaments which become like a club, bunch of locals.

I live on a lake in East Texas and yes, they are still a thing. But now we've gone from the (you name it city) bass club to those and multiple semi-pro circuits like Media Bass, Fishers of Men, JC Outdoors, CAST and even more. And throw in high school clubs and there are tournaments every weekend it seems. The average City Bass Club likely has less members than 40 years ago.

I thought clubs are mostly for baby seals.
