Meh, not only are those things crazy expensive, but people are having all kinds of problems with them. Also, I don't need additional charging for my TM batteries while out fishing. My crank battery gets lower during a trip than the two TM batteries. I am starting to think I have a charging issue while on the run. I hope moving the engine wires to the main pole instead of one of the extenders fixes that.

You can select where the power pole unit charges. It has a sliding bar to set the area of need

I have had them on 2 boats and not had one single issue with mine. I won’t have another boat without one.

But isn't my engine already supposed to be doing the charging?

What's happening with them? I have another on board charger but the charge seemed interesting. I wonder if eventually you could have combined remote for Power Pole Anchor, Trolling motor, electrical system and whatever else they do in the future

Just a quick update. I am pretty sure my fusible link was popped from the get go. One of the reasons I bought an Ionic crank battery was the poor performance of the AGM that Basscat sold me. Well, even after switching, I would sometimes be around 80% after a half day trip, and long runs were not helping my battery out.

Just got the link replaced last week and took my first trip Saturday. Ionic started at 97% and at the end of the day, it was 99%. There's no telling how many trips I will be able to make before needing to charge, and now, it will be the TM batteries needing it instead of my crank. Huge relief.

I recently ordered a 100ah 36v Lifepo4 battery from china for $766. I'll post a review when I get it installed.

Just remember, if you go li for tm you can’t use to jump cranking battery. Another guide likes to play music while fishing, passes him in the ditch and he called me to jump battery since he only had a 36 Li, ended up giving him a tm battery to get home.??

This is the battery I ordered:

This is another seller that has more options:

This is the lithium charger that I have:

quote:

The M1236 36VDC Marine Battery Charger is a waterproof battery charger designed for “charge on the run” meaning it charges while the outboard is running. It works like a typical battery charger. However it gets it’s input energy from the 12V system in the boat instead of a 110VAC wall outlet. It converts this 12V energy into 36V energy and properly charges Lithium Pros’ 36V batteries. This 4.5 lbs system permanently mounts in the boat between the 12V and 36V battery(ies) and connects to each. The 12V ground and 36V ground are tied together for a common ground. The 12V positive terminal provides input to the M1236 36VDC Marine Battery Charger and the output from the M1236 36VDC Marine Battery Charger goes to the 36V positive terminal. This unit is completely automatic in operation. Anytime the outboard is running OR anytime a 12V charger is connected to the 12V side of the boat, this unit is simultaneously charging the 36V battery(ies). Don’t worry, it prioritizes the 12V battery and insures it is at 80% State of Charge before it starts charging the 36V battery(ies) so you’re always good to go.

I was told not to buy lithium batteries and use them on my Optimax engines. I want to make the switch but am worried about destroying the engines--any truth to this?

I only have lithium on my trolling motor.

This is the cranking battery that I have in my boat:

Merc has definitely softened their stance on this with regard to the 4 strokes and thousands of guys are using lithium cranks. Mine is fantastic. I know way less about use with a 2 stroke, but a quick search reveals people using them with no issue. If you have any doubt, I would contact Drew at Drewcraft. He was very helpful when I had concerns. And if something bad did happen, I do not think destroy is on the list. The worst you would experience is an unplanned shut down, but if you use a brand with a proper BMS, this will not happen.

hat is the weight difference with full size lithiums vs lead acid?

I've been told it saves on average about 100 lbs in your boat.

Someone recommend me a very good lithium 12v deep cycle battery. I have 2 12 v batteries for my tm and a crank battery. I use a 4th deep cycle for a bait tank and a small tm with a flapper blade that just splashes the top of the water (really great for hybrids and stripers). The deep cycle that powers the flapper tm and bait tank only lasts me 4-5 months and I'm tired of it. I want one that's going to last.

FYI-I sometimes run my bait tank for 24 hrs at a time but I'll charge it while I'm on land and running it. My bait tank draws just under 2 amps.

Keep in mind most insurances won’t cover fire damages with lithium batteries.

No one is reporting fire issues with LiFePO4 batteries. Do you have a policy showing an exclusion?
