Anyone use an FFP on their Hunting Rifle?

I've searching scopes lately and FFP is really taking off it seems. The HUD DMR reticle from Primary Arms is really interesting.

It’s not the best for your everyday hunting rifle. I have a FF1 NF ATACR 5-25x56 on my Falkor and it’s a great scope but the reticle gets way to small for close shots or low light. I hunt with it all the time and one time I got in a bind on a hog at dark. I forgot to get a battery for my illumination and the retical was so small I had to guess with the center of the scope and shoot.

I prefer a SFP for my hunting scopes for that reason. Now if you’re shooting long range or something then you may want a FFP. Most of my shots are under 300 yards.

Yup.

Just make sure it is an illuminated reticle.

Because FFP reticles are “scaled” for distance, the minimum magnification setting will make the reticle appear quite small relative to a second focal plane scope.

Damn, that's a lot of magnification for hunting.

I have the same scope as Rize but it’s in my rifle that have been using for f class competitions and I haven’t taken hunting yet.

Of my other scopes probably my favorite for hunting situations is my Leupold vx5 hd 3-15x44.

And all the clutter on the reticle will just get in your way while hunting. That’s a competition scope for PRS type shooting.

I have the same NF ATACR 5-25x56 mentioned above on one of my hunting rifles I use for longer ranges. I love it. I have the illuminated reticle for low light. It’s my first FFP ant it took some getting use too.

That reticle in OP is a little too busy for my liking.

I'm waiting for my scope with FFP to arrive from the Black Friday sale. I can't wait to start using it for long range targets.

This is a bit like running a 250 horse outboard on a bass boat. If you’re fishing tournaments, it makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, it’s not needed to catch fish.

This is my current reticle on my hunting rifle. I think I'm going to buy an inexpensive FFP and throw it on my AR just to see how I like it.

For a hunting reticle I’d stick with SFP for the reasons mentioned above. Also, a less busy reticle is advisable.
That being said, primary arms has some of the best reticle in the business. Their ACSS reticle for AR rifles is about as tactically perfect as I’ve ever seen. I love my PA 1-6x for defense and hog hunting. It’s versatile for CQC and stretching out to reasonable distance.

Yes but it must be illuminated. You won’t be able to See a non lit reticle in the last few mins of light. (On low power)

I like ffp on anything higher than 12x. My Nightforce ATACR 4-16 is the ffp I’m talking about. I can use the reticle feature at 10 or 12x still maintaining a large FOV and know my hold overs are correct.

My knock against a SFP high powered scope is if you’re zoomed all the way in and holding over, the FOV is so compressed you have no idea how the animal acted after being hit. That’s if you’re shooting anything with recoil

Particular acss reticle? Just tried to look at their website sorting function isn’t great on phone - and looked like they have 20 ACSS reticles

I think mine may be Gen II as it’s about 4 years old now, but otherwise this is my exact scope.
