Anyone hunt deer with slugs?

My nephew tried it with his Mossberg 590a1. Liked it, said it was a cleaner shot. Hadn't really heard of that before.

Hunted some public land areas that were shotgun only. So I got a rifled barrel with cantilevered scope mount for my 20ga 870. Was purdy awesome! Really accurate and devastating to 140 yards or so. Also quite punishing to shoot....
They made the area straight wall cartridge in addition to shotgun. I went to 45-70 or 44 mag after that. Sold my slug barrels ...

Used to hunt in a shotgun only area. A 20 guage slug will hammer a deer. Even with rifled barrels, rounds have gotten much more accuate in the last 10-15 years.

I killed one once with a slug out of my 1100...dropped it dead...it was anything but clean. No neck roast off that one for sure.

I have a 20GA single shot H&R with a rifled barrel I bought 20 or so years ago for a gun hunt I was invited to attend in Illinois. Up until that point, I had no idea a man could shoot a shotgun slug over 100 yards.
That still is my favorite rifle I own and use it anytime I am hunting in the woods with a 150 yard shot or less. Each deer I have shot with that gun has dropped in their tracks. It did take me a while to figure out what slugs it liked, but impressive to say the least on the results.
