I'm thinking I probably know some of you. I grew up a couple of blocks from St. Paul's.

Do you guys know of any places that I could take kids fishing?
How old are they? If they can work a lure then go to neighborhood ponds like beau chene, meadowbrook, etc in mandeville. If they're real young, like cane pole and cork with worms, you can try off the old boat launch pier on bayou lacombe. Fish by some lilly pads if you see any, that's all I can think of offhand.

They are 8 and 12. Don't know how to work lures. We have been to the old launch. Waste of time, nothing but little bait stealers.

Used to catch Sac Au Lait near the bridge fenders in Madisonville. Would go a little deeper. Used minnows.

Fish the Tchefuncte for catfish off the side of the road down towards the Madisonville boat launch.

Very possible. Back then, family names mattered and most everyone knew everyone or at least you could get a good read on a stranger based on their last name. One guy in my class who I was good friends with and lived close to SPS had the initials TS (I don’t count the boarders!!).

I knew most of the local guys from St. Paul's and the girls from SSA because I went to St. Peters until after 6th grade. Then I went to private school after that.

Peter Garcia just died. Sad. He was a judge in Covington. He and all his siblings went to Catholic school.

Well you have me stumped with the really big family part. Mayeaux, Motichek, Marsolan, I'm drawing a blank. I am 64. When I think of the big families I think of Red Smith's kids Eugene, Wanda (deceased), Larry, Jim (Smoke) and a bunch of others that just kept on coming.

Negative. There was six daughters but you probably only possibly know 5 because the oldest of the 12 was the 1st girl.

You went to Saint Paul's correct?

went with the kids today just to mess around with worms and crickets. Caught enough to keep their attention but all tiny. Couple catfish too.

That launch down Water street At Menetre park has got the be the gold standard for boatramp idiots and assholes. It’s a tight space anyway compounded by a herd of pleasure boats and pontoons.

Truth. I took the yak out early. Got back at about noon and it was a goddamned madhouse.

As in Smith’s Hardware? I know/knew Kevin in school.
Spell was another big S name at the time.

An M name you left out was Maestri (aka Noel Maestri the flooring guy).

Crazy story for you all: I was loading my kayak in my truck after a day of fishing here in Texas. An older couple walked by and we started talking. The woman turned out to be the daughter of Jim Frederick (Frederich?) the owner of the five and dime across the street from the Star cinema. Small world.
