Bought a Tikka 6.5 Swede about this time last year. Haven't hunted with it yet, but it's a fun gun to shoot

How bad does the 9.3x62 kick? I seriously considered getting a CZ 550 in this caliber but thought it would be Overkill for North America.

9.3x62 has basically the power of a 375 Holland and Holland......just like the 9.3x74r.
Difference is...... 9.3x62 can be put in a Medium action bolt rifle and 9.3x74r must be put in a full length magnum action Bolt Rifle.

Im no expert on this but i think you are incorrect. 9.3x62 is more of a metric 35 Whelen than a 375 h&h. Its supposedly pretty easy on the shoulder for what it is.
I think .375 is in a whole different horsepower class

^^^ This.
DSAFI is correct. I did a lot of research into the 9.3x62 before I bought my .375 H&H, and they are in two totally different classes.
Did I need either of them at the time or right now? Hell no. But you never know when an elephant might attack, so I chose the .375 H&H. And I got a helluva a deal on a Weatherby Mark V Sporter.

Not bad at all. First time I shot it I was 14. Very manageable. It's a great cartridge. Get the 550. Great gun.

Gentlemen, I stand corrected.
Just read it’s a 30-06 case necked up to .36 ...... the whelen is basically a 30-06 case necked to the .35
So the 9.3x62 is essentially a 36 Whelen... it WILL fit in medium length actions as noted but not the 375HH in power.

Id love to have a 9.3x62 just because I like the caliber. Big heavy bullet at moderate speed and bolt-action rifle friendly.
The old metric calibers are really good about being easy on the shoulder while still making good velocity. Its a shame that .308 and .30-06 are the action length dictators. That really limits the offerings out there in the sweet ones like the Swede and the 7's.

No love in here for the Mosin Nagants?
I actually do like them, but the memes alone are worth their weight in gold.

45-60 degrees at least.

And I have read it's not even meters on some models but some archaic measurement called arshin or some such.

I think Steyr used to make a 9.3x62 Pro Hunter and Forester. Great combo.

1 hog and 1 doe with mine this year and it’s a dream to shoot. It’s way more accurate than I am. Quarter sized groups at 100 yards with Nosler Trophy Grade 140 gr ammo.
