I'll be on Toledo Bend (Texas side) in the trees looking for the tree rats. I'll also be doing some sac-a-lait fishing, catfishing, beer drinking, and cooking some good dinners every night. We have a camp on the lake and every year we take a week in October for squirrel hunting and some fishing. It's the week I look forward to the most every year.

I'm kind of disappointed it's opening a week later than archery here. I usually squirrel hunt the first two weeks until the acorns really start dropping.

Good luck to you, sounds like it's going to be an awesome time.

This. Maybe the dry weather I don't know but they are thick. My area had a lot of wolves or whatever those are last year so Ill probably wait.

We deer hunt the same area so I try to give it a few weeks after squirrel hunting to let the deer get comfortable in there again.

In years past, we would delay the trip to several weeks into October and the damn weather seemed to just move with us. It was in the 90s late in October in past years so we said screw it and made it a squirrel hunting trip and fishing trip. Go look for squirrels a few hours in the morning, spend the rest of the day fishing. We generally get a nice 20-30lb catfish each year. I'm really trying to figure out the crappie, but that's a years long process. Going to take some cedar that I cut down at the house to sink in the water hoping to attract some in.

In all honesty, I don't really care about the hunt or the catch. I just love being away from civilization, without TV and out in the woods. The camp house is a typical DIY job. It is in rough shape, so much so we had to move the whole house to level the earth beneath it which was a fun process but quite a long write-up. We always eat a huge breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, and biscuits and gravy) then stay out on the lake or in the forest all day, then cook a nice dinner. Steak, shrimp boil, fish fry, and brisket burgers are on the menu this trip. Also take a high ABV stout for each night to cap off the day.

I would have thought they were still carrying Wulves (SP?)....bot flies essentially. Then again, I don't hunt them often so what the hell do I know.

I may shoot some once a year but it is normally much colder when I do.

Talked about doing exactly that as I’ll be in town for a wedding.

I’ll be missing my first squirrel opener in several years.

Same.

Don't start too early because they aren't that big in number but wait till the cold and there'll be a lot.
