I'm ready. It's my favorite fishing. Cold beer and crickets.

I got a shallow cove in Hot Springs that the red ear will start bed in bout now, then the bluegills will move in. Cast to the beds with ultralight tackle and load up an ice chest. Then I'll head to Lake Chicot for some cane pole fishing.

Dad has been doing some recon in the Mecca for me and tells me the brims are still a few weeks out. So I pass the time catching a trout or 2.

I had been catching 15-20 bream in my pond until this last weekend. That cold snap last week killed the bite. Only caught two small ones on Saturday.

You are lucky, the pond brims are always ahead of the ones that have more freedom. When I worked at Black Bayou, they never turned on real good till the last 2 weeks of school, so usually mid-May.

I was trying to let my fish have their first spawn before I started fishing heavy. I have been waiting to see some fry along the bank and have hardly seen any. Starting to get worried. Glad to hear they are just now really starting to bed up

He scared of bones lol..... my fav eating fish out there.

I go bass fishing in Ramah every once in awhile and see people keeping every bream they catch, even the small ones. Seems like filleting them would be more work than it's worth. Am I missing something, or is there some other way to cook these without having to deal with the bones?

Also, anyone mind sharing some recipes?

I don't keep the small ones but if they are eating size but not quite big enough to fillet, them when scale them and then butterfly them. Then you can easily just tear off the whole side after they are fried
